The 1963-64 season will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. After a number of high finishes in Division 1 the 1st XI endured the lowest points haul in their 100 year history when they finished bottom of Division 1 amassing a paltry 8 points.
Skipper Dave Rowles pointed to a large number of defeats by the odd goal and a lack of firepower up front as the primary reasons behind the sorry statistics.
However it was not all doom and gloom. To complete a hat-trick of successes in AFA Cup competitions, the "B" XI managed to win the AFA Novets Cup (for 4th and 5th XIs) and their division with a record of

Skipper Brian O’Donohoe tells a tale that is typical of many of the lower sides. He recalls "We were fortunate that the selection policy of the 3s aided us. I recommended all my players at one time or another, but they always came back after one game. We travelled to the neutral venue at Norsemen for the semi final, but lost a player en route. Thankfully Dennis Philpott, who came to support us, had brought his kit, as all good Club men did in those days and we managed to scrape a 1-1 draw. In the replay on the following Saturday on our first team pitch we won 4-0 in very wet and windy conditions, which suited us. In the final at Lloyds Bank’s ground at Beckenham we faced Norsemen ironically. They were a division above us and we were inspired after overhearing that they had already booked the restaurant in town to celebrate winning the cup!! We won 3-0 with goals from John Smith, Dave Thomas and Terry "Poacher" Hornet. In fairness to Norsemen, they came back to our clubhouse that evening and a great time was had by all. They never did have that dinner in town. More than half of that season’s 4th XI ended up in the 2nd XI the following season. Things never change do they?" Both sides returned to the Club until the early hours and £80 was taken over the bar.
