Under Tony Manton, a talented inside forward, Carshalton flirted with relegation for most of the season. Unfortunately, the skipper’s understated style of captaincy was unable to get enough players to perform to his own standard. By mid March, results had gone so badly that they looked certainties for relegation. However the final 7 games resulted in 3 wins and 3 draws and they managed to haul themselves above Barclays Bank and Old Westminster Citizens. This run included successive wins in their final league games against the division winners and runners up! They reached the semi final of the AFA Surrey Senior Cup with wins against The Northern & Employers Club 7-2, Borough Polytechnic 2-1 aet – (both sides missing two penalties apiece!) and Old Strandians 4-1. In the semi final they lost 2-1 to Old Westminster Citizens, who went on to win the trophy by surprising West Wickham.

The Reserves brought back the AFA Surrey Junior Cup to Beddington Park by beating Distillers Sports 9-0, Bank of England 7-1, Old Thorntonians 6-3 & Clapham Old Xaverians 3-1. In the final at the BBC Ground at Motspur Park, they defeated Old Reigatians 3-2 with the winning goal coming in the final minute. The team that day was Tony Allen, Roger Pillings, Brian Stanworth, Laurie Robinson, Angus Tarn, Tom Neilly, Graham Pratt, Jimmy James (second goal), Bob Green (first and winning goals), Tony Armor, Ken Adams

Old Sweats Day was notable for the number of former Club captains who attended including Gillie Reay, Jack Lindsay, Cedric Webb, AA Barnes, Maurice Watts, Alan Harvey, Les Pullen and Jimmy James. Also present were Tom Davies, Stan Mark, George Ireland, Jack Steward, I Theobald. They were able to bask in the glow of the new electric lighting which replaced the previously gloomy gas lighting in the Pavilion – one of the last clubhouses to make the switch.
