After nearly 4 years of trial and tribulation, the members’ patience was rewarded with the opening of the new pavilion on Saturday 3rd October 1970 during Old Sweats Day by Club President Horry Walter and AFA Secretary AJ Hutchinson. It had been a long wait, fraught with disappointment, frustration and hardship. The Club had owed much to the indomitable tea ladies, who had performed the welcome rescue act of providing the fare to which the Club was accustomed by hiring a church hall. Gone were the evenings of piling into cars and dashing headlong to The Fox & Hounds in Carshalton.
The improvement in facilities prompted a recovery in the fortunes on the pitch. The 1s closed in on promotion, but finish 4th. The 2s went one better in their first season in Division 3 by finishing 3rd. The success for the season was claimed by the 3s, who bounced back to Division 1 by winning Division 2 with a record of:
