The 1st XI equalled their lowest finish in the SAL in the 100 year history. At Christmas, things were looking even bleaker as the team lay at the foot of the SAL for the first time ever. The ignominy of re-election loomed. Sweeping changes were made to personnel and consequently team spirit soon recovered. The team then embarked on a 12 game unbeaten run. Though most of these games were in the cups, valuable league points were also accumulated.

The failure of the 1s was in stark contrast to the success of the lower sides. Tony Knott Snr. led the 2s to the Division 3 title with a record of:

and so won the only promotion spot available that year. They also reached the semi final of the AFA Surrey Junior Cup where they lost 3-0 to Kew Association.

The 3s comfortably held their Division 1 status on their return to the top flight, the 4s finished mid table in Division 2, the 5s finished 4th in Division 1 and the 6s stormed to the Division 2 title with a record of:

This season also produced what is believed to be the biggest win for any Carshalton side – the 7s 19-1 demolition of Midland Bank on 9th October 1971.

Off the pitch Hon. Treasurer Jack Wombill broke his long active association with the Club when he had to move out of the area. Fortunately the Club could call on the professional services of John Briggs to continue the sterling work done by Jack.
