It has to be conceded that the 75th Jubilee season was a struggle on the pitch as the 1s missed out on promotion again, and the 2s, 3s and 6s were all relegated. As a consequence the 5s became the only side competing in their First Division. The inexperience of the new captains of the top 4 sides, coupled with a lack of enthusiasm and effort from the players was blamed for the Club’s failures on the pitch. However, on the social side, this was one of the most outstanding seasons in the history of the Club (so said Peter Moorhouse’s end of season report).

The 2s did salvage some pride for the Club by reaching the final of the AFA Junior Cup. But they were not to lift the trophy, as they lost 0-2 to Old Josephians 1st XI.

The 75 year anniversary celebrations culminated in a Stag Dinner at the Club with over 100 attendees, many of whom were guests from other clubs, and officials of the SAL, AFA and Surrey FA. This became a regular feature of all future seasons after the huge success of this event. Catering was handled, as always by Anne Backers, ably assisted by Janet and Tony Knott. As part of the celebrations the 1s defeated an SAL Representative XI.

After 10 years at the helm, Horry Walter decided not to stand for re-election after this season. The Club was very fortunate to have a President like Horry at Carshalton. His knowledge of SAL football and of our Club was second to none, as indeed it should have been – he joined Carshalton in 1927. The standards he set himself had a great influence on the Club.

After 3 years as Social Secretary, Tony Knott resigned. Tony had done much to keep the spirit of the Club going while little success was had on the pitch. He kept the spirits high with many Discos, kiddies’ Christmas Parties, Stag Nights and highly successful Dinner Dances in the Fox and Hounds.
