In August the Club was no nearer getting the pavilion rebuilt and the pitches were in a perilous state after the summer drought. By May, the Clubhouse had been rebuilt, a tractor and spiker acquired which, with the help of a wet winter and the skill of groundsman Mike Grant-Collie, produced a magnificent playing surface. The 1s came with a late run to win Division 2 and return to the SAL top flight after 14 years. At Christmas they were well off the pace, but as other sides dropped points, Carshalton kept winning. After a titanic struggle, they ended level with Lloyds Bank and 2 points clear of Old Broms and Southgate Olympic. There was even a rare win in the Surrey Senior Cup– 4-0 at Chobham.
The 2s and 3s also enjoyed their share of success after poor starts, both finishing 4th in Division 1. As a consequence of the popularity of Vets football, a number of more experienced, useful players dropped out of selection for the lower sides, meaning that there was little success on the pitch lower down the Club.
