Normally 19 points would keep any side out of relegation but, in a very tight division, the 1s finished second bottom with this total. This disastrous finish would normally have resulted in the dreaded drop to the SAL basement but, following persistent misconduct and maladministration, Catford Wanderers were dismissed from the SAL and so the team survived. In stark contrast to the problems of Catford, Carshalton were awarded the Wilkinson Sword Fair Play Trophy for a record of only 3 bookings for the whole Club during the season.
Mick O’Leary’s 3s were the most successful side in the Club, going close to winning Division 1 and losing 3-1 to Old Esthameians in the semi finals of the AFA Junior Cup. Elsewhere the other sides held their status in their divisions, with the 6s going close to promotion for the third successive season. The Vets lost narrowly in the final of the Old Grammarians 7-a-side tournament.
In the Old Latymerians 6-a-side competition, Carshalton reached the semi finals, beating Old Salesians 4-0 and drawing 1-1 with Crouch End Vampires, before being knocked out by Shene Old Grammarians on the "most corners" rule.
To raise funds for Radio Lollipop of Queen Mary’s Hospital, Carshalton FC organised an ambitious charity day in Beddington Park. This involved a Carshalton Football Club Fun Run at 11am, side stalls, a Real Ale Bar and a Charity football match between an All Stars Football XI (John Burridge, George Graham, Dave Bassett, Alan Gillette, Geoff Taylor, Mike Bailey, John Collins, Brian Eastick, Ray Lewington, Micky Leach, Mick Fillery, Gary Chivers, Steve Kember, Mike Kelly, John Hollins, Gerry Francis) and a Thames TV Showbiz XI (including Jess Conrad, Graham Dene, Peter Duncan, David Hamilton, Robert Lindsay, Patrick Mower, Roy North, Bill Oddie, Richard O’Sullivan and Dennis Waterman). The event proved a huge success and was attended by about 2000 spectators.
