Despite defeating Yately 3-0 aet in the Surrey Senior Cup, the 1st XI started disappointingly in the league season. Peter Griggs took over the captaincy and initially his side struggled to compete. They picked up considerably following a reshape of the side in November and mounted a challenge for promotion. They also enjoyed an excellent run in the AFA Senior Cup. Victories over Old Minchendians 6-1, Old Buckwellians 4-2, West Wickham 5-1 aet and Old Finchleians 4-1 led to a 1-2 semi final defeat to eventual winners Norsemen. The age-old problem of injuries towards the end of the season put paid to any hopes of a promotion challenge. The 4s and 6s were more successful as both won promotion to their respective First Divisions.
The Vets enhanced their excellent record in the Grammarians 7 a side tournament by beating Norsemen in the final to secure the trophy again.
The trip to Montreuil Bellay attracted an incredible 60 tourists and was considered to be the most successful yet – though not by any means on the pitch. Success on these tours is only measured in the volume of alcohol drunk – and this year was surely a new record.
