| 13 Apr 2008 -
Weekend Review - great effort by the U11s who
played away against the league champions with only 9
boys and only lost 0-3. A really great
effort. The U13s set up a thrilling last game of
the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Redbrick
thanks to a strike in each half from Simon. Win
that last game on 27 April and we are league
Champions.

13 Apr 2008 -
Wellertown Gig - an astonishingly poor
turnout by Club members - only 4 (four) playing
members turned up - 1 from the 4s and 3 from the
7s. All those who moan about a lack of events
and pontificate about how to generate more revenue and
improve the social side of the club should rightly
feel ashamed of themselves. Because of the lack
of bar revenue and the loss made on this and other
events this season, subs will naturally increase next
season significantly. Don't anyone
complain. Special mention to those who promised
they were coming - even on the day - but did not
bother to turn up.
As it was, the band were absolutely fantastic.
Thanks to the youth section parents and a number of
friends we had enough to make it a good evening.
Massive thanks to the band who played as if they were
in front of thousands. Awesome.
After 20 years at the Carshalton FC, this is my last
involvement with the senior section of the Club.
I intend to continue helping to run the youth section,
as we have fantastic support from this part of the
membership. You need to find a new web site
manager and Club Development Officer for next
season. I can't express just how angry and let
down I feel, especially by certain members - they know
who they are.

7 Apr 2008 -
Weekend Review - the 6s bid for SAL Cup glory
ended at the final hurdle when a very strong Winchmore
Hill team ran out 7-1 winners in the final.
Credit to Matt and his boys for reaching the final,
but Winchmore Hill showed what a difference it makes
playing 2 divisions higher every week.
Despite a sublime 25-yard strike midway
through the first half from skipper Dave Tilley, BB
Eagles fought back to grab an extremely
contentious equaliser with the very last kick
before the break. Then, in an end-to-end
second half, and after Richard Webb's spot kick
had been saved, BB Eagles went on to score the winner,
a goal that is likely to see them avoid
relegation to Division 3. Best wishes for a
speedy recovery to Paul Pearce who was taken
by ambulance to hospital after a head injury.
The 2s' still need a point to win the Division 1 title
after a 1-4 defeat at Old Owens. The final game
is this Saturday at HSBC. The 3s look
certainties for promotion now - 1 point to make
certain from their final 3 games. 2 wins will
guarantee them the title.
The 5s gave league leaders Polytechnic 5s a run for
their money before going down 1-3 and now need 1 win
from 2 games to avoid relegation. The travel to
bottom of the table South Bank CUACO this Saturday.
The 7s all but sealed their place in Division 5 South
with a thrilling 5-4 win at HSBC 6s. Only a
couple of freak scorelines can see them relegated now
with one game to go. The 8s lost 0-8 at home to
Kew, and travel this weekend to face the same
opposition!! The Vets battled hard but lost 2-5
to a combined Kew Park Rangers / Maori
"select" team.
On Sunday, all games were lost to the weather.

| 31 Mar 2008 - Club
Dinner - well done to everyone who attended
and worked so hard to put on this year's excellent
Club Dinner. Special mention to Trevor Boughton
for taking on the organisation, Neil Backers and the
others who sorted out tables and chairs etc, and to
Matt Wigham, Dave Tilley and Dennis Philpott for
providing the entertainment during the evening.
Detailed report with pictures will be available later
this week.

31 Mar 2008 - Cup
Finals - best wishes to Matt Boyman's 6s for
their SAL Cup final this Saturday (5 April) at BB
Eagles ground (3pm KO) against Winchmore Hill.
Dave Jenvey's 5s now know that they will face Old
Actonians in their SAL Cup final on 19 April at Old
Salesians ground in Ewell (KO 3pm). We wish them
well in their quest for silverware.

31 Mar 2008 -
Weekend Review - the 2s' win at Old Actonians
coupled with Nottsborough's defeat at West Wickham
means that the 2s need 1 point from their final 2
games to win the Division 1 title. Their final
games are at Old Owens next week and at HSBC the
following week.
The 3s suffered a post Club Dinner hangover, only
drawing at lowly Bank of England. However,
despite these 2 dropped points, they are still in pole
position to win the Division 2 title.
The 5s had a very important 3-2 win at Ibis, which
means they need one win from their final 3 games to
stay up. The 6s lost to runaway leaders Alleyn
Old Boys by the odd goal in 7, but other results meant
that they secured promotion. The 7s romped to a
7-1 win over Old Wilsonians to raise them out of the
relegation places with 2 games to go.
On Sunday there was a win for the U11s, a draw for the
U10s, while the U13s lost in the league for the first
time - they will however be wondering how they ended
up losing 1-2.

17 Mar 2008 - 4s
Are Champions - well done to Ben Doherty and his
boys for winning Minor Section Division 2 South - a
feat all the more remarkable as they lost their first
two games of the season 2-5 and 1-4!!! Talk
about making it difficult for yourselves. Ben's
match report for this week contains a player summary
as well as the actual match report. Hope to see
you all at the Club Dinner.

17 Mar 2008 -
Weekend Review - quite a return to form for
all the teams this week. After four consecutive defeats on their travels, and again much depleted due to their lengthening injury list, the 1s returned to winning ways with a deserved victory over H.S.B.C at Beddington Park.
Having fallen behind to a goal on the stroke of half time, Jon Phillips found the all-important equaliser on 56 minutes, before ten minutes later
he put his team ahead with his second of the contest.
The result was put beyond doubt five minutes from time when Paul Pearce cleverly outwitted the visitors' keeper to slide home from
close-range.
The 2s had a
morale boosting 4-2 win at Civil Service to remain top
of Division 1, thanks in no small part to a hattrick
from Martin Vincent. Their main challengers
Nottsborough drew to bottom of the table Old
Wilsonians to bring Chris Tilley's side level on
points with a game in hand with only 3 games to play.
The 3s 3-1 win at West Wickham gives Tony Edward's
team a 6 point gap over Kew Association at the top of
Division 2 and 2 wins out of the final 5 games will
guarantee promotion.
Many congratulations to Ben Doherty and his 4s who
clinched the Minor Section Division 2 South league
title with an emphatic 7-0 win over Polytechnic.
Congratulations also to young Andy Bitmead who passed
the 30 goal mark in the game.
The 5s had a very disappointing result going down 1-3
at home to Old Actonians and the probably need a
couple of wins from their last games to avoid
relegation. Recent form suggests that is more
than a possibility. Let's hope Saturday was just
a blip.
The 6s need 3 wins from 4 games to be absolutely sure
of promotion, though a win this coming Saturday over
main rivals Weirside Rangers would mean only one
further win would be required.
The 7s game with Old Actonians was postponed as
Actonians could not make the early kick off
time. The 8s won convincingly at Bank of
England, as did the Vets at Polytechnic.
On Sunday the U11s recorded a 6-0 win with a hattrick
from Sam, while the U9s lost by the only goal of the
game at Junior Bees.

| 8 Mar 2008 - SAL
Representative Game - due to the Arthurian
League being unable to raise a side, the planned SAL
Representative game scheduled for Beddington Park on
12th March has been cancelled. We'd like to
thank all those club members who put in so much time
and effort in preparing for this game and hope that
the money we invested in this fixture can be used in
future such games we may be awarded.

4 Mar 2008 - SAL Cup
Final Updates - following their semi final
success over Civil Service at the weekend, the 5s are
still waiting to discover their opponents in the
final. HSBC and Old Actonians are scheduled to
play in the other semi final on 22 March, but this is
pending an appeal from Winchmore Hill who were
disqualified from the competition after allegedly
fielding an ineligible player. The final is at
Old Salesians ground in Ewell and is scheduled for
either 12 or 19 April. We'll inform you of
developments.
The situation is a lot clearer for the 6s who face
Winchmore Hill on 5 April at BB Eagles ground.

| 4 Mar 2008 - SAL Cup
Final at Beddington Park - following a change
of date by the AFA, Carshalton FC can no longer host
the AFA Surrey & Kent Senior Cup Final, as it
clashes with Old Sweats Day which has been planned for
months. However, we have instead been awarded
the SAL Minor Cup Final between Nottsborough and Old
Actonians on Saturday 29
March. We know our members will rise to the
challenge and provide a warm welcome to the players,
officials and supporters of both clubs.

| 4 Mar 2008 - Club
Members Night - well done to those who
supported the members night. Quite an education
for some. Don't worry lads, what happens at the
club, stays at the club... unless of course I am
bribed with sufficient Stellas! Well done to Wol
and HMS for their hard work in putting the event
on. Pity there weren't more actual club members
there.

27 Feb 2008 - A
Referee's View - last Saturday I refereed our
4s v Kew Association 4s. It was a spirited game
and a lot closer contested than the 4-0 scoreline
would suggest. During the game, one of Kew's
players, somewhat suffering from the previous night's exertions,
walked to the side of the pitch and proceeded to
double over on his hands and knees emptying his body
of the offending liquid. I won't embarrass the
Carshalton player who asked me to stop the game
"because that geezer is praying to Mecca.
Is he allowed to leave the pitch for that?"!
Well done to Kew's players for hanging round in the
bar and engaging the referee in a bit of banter.
Nice to see the SAL spirit survives. I still put
the booking through though!! - Buzz |

24 Feb 2008 -
Weekend Review - astonishingly the senior
squad had to cope with 15 - yes fifteen players being
unavailable on Saturday. Well done to everyone
who rallied round to ensure we were able to fulfill
our fixtures in these extraordinary
circumstances. Not surprisingly the 1s lost, but
given the circumstances (including Wol's debut in goal
for the 1s), 0-3 was not a disaster. The 2s
pulled off a great result in grabbing a point at
E.B.O.G to maintain their 3 point gap at the top of
the table. The 4s and 5s both had excellent,
crucial wins (Mike Bailie's brilliant hattrick for the
4s being the standout performance of the day).
The 5s win takes them out of the relegation
places. The 7s managed to come back from 1-4
down to draw 4-4 with a scratch side out - including
Charlie Sinclair in goal and Terry Cave senior defying
age and gravity to make a remarkable comeback for the
club.
Unfortunately both the 3s and 6s lost their semi
finals. The 3s were 3-2 up in extra time, but
lost late goals to lose 3-7 at Old Finchleians.
At Beddington Park, the 6s were defeated 0-2 in extra
time - the last goal coming with the last kick of the
game - by a strong Old Wilsonians outfit who belied
their league position and have improved since playing
our 7s earlier in the league.
On Sunday the U11s went down in a close game at Epsom,
while the U10s and U13s had good wins. Special
congratulations to the U9s who had a morale boosting
1-1 draw at AC Fulham. Well done to Neil, Phil
and their boys. |

21 Feb 2008 -
Weekend Review - the 1s lost on their league travels for the first time this season, going down
to fellow promotion hopefuls E.B.O.G on an extremely testing playing surface at Alan Drive
following the drainage works undertaken during the summer.
Indeed, an
injury sustained by Jon Biggle, which resulted in him having to withdraw from
the action in the second half was clearly down to the condition of the
pitch. The worry is that Biggle is likely now to
join the team's other long term casualties, Bill Tilley and Adam Fisk, on the
sidelines for the remainder of the season.
The other results were much better. The 3s
continue to march on at the top of Division 2.
Their win over HSBC stretches the gap at the top to 8
points. The 4s win over HSBC keeps them in
second place. Andy Bitmead's 4 goals takes him 7
clear in the race for the Golden Boot. The 5s
had another encouraging result, but were gutted to
concede 2 goals in the last 3 minutes to drop 2
points, and therefore missed the chance to move off
the foot of the table. The 6s win over fellow
promotion candidates Kew Association puts them firmly
in the promotion places. Rick Morris came into
goalscoring form with a hattrick at just the right
time for the cup semi final this Saturday. And
there was an encouraging win for the 7s, their first
since mid November.
On Sunday the U10s had a bad day at the office at
Hampton Youth and will be looking for significant
improvements when these teams face each other in the
Invitational Cup semi final in 3 weeks time. The
U13s overcame a slow start (2-2 10 minutes into the
second half) to run out 11-3 winners over Kingstonian
Youth in the league. |
