News
Summary
30 Sep 2002 - Weekend Summary - The 1s suffered a
number of setbacks including late cry-offs, injuries to Matt
Wigham and Dave Leach, and a surprise defeat in the AFA
Surrey Senior Cup preliminary round. Paul Gunter's and
Andy Cook's reports explain all. The 2s came back from 0-2 down at
half-time with goals from Jason Winyard to gain a point from
the first home game of the season against Alleyn Old Boys.
The 3s were comprehensively beaten at West Wickham, but Matt
Huffer's report gives grounds for optimism. The 4s
recovered from their mauling at Finchleians the week before,
by beating Egbertians in the AFA Minor Cup, thanks to 2
goals from Matt Osborne.
The Vets had a walkover in
their AFA Veterans Cup match with Old Brentwoods, who were
unable to raise a side.
Our Juniors are doing us
proud. The U12s beat Aldershot Town 8-5 !!! (and have
sent in their report) in the League Cup. The U15s (who
have also written reports for all their games) maintained
their 100% record this season with a tough 2-1 win at Junior
Bees, Chris Tupper scoring both goals.
Disappointingly, the rails came off for the U14s who
suffered a 6-1 reverse at Predators.

Sep 2002 - Weekend Preview - the Clubhouse at
Beddington Park is shared this weekend with the cricket
club, but the 2 main pitches are available for the 2s SAL
game against Alleyn Old Boys and the Vets AFA Cup tie with
Old Brentwoods. We take over the ownership of the
Clubhouse on Monday 30th September.
The 1s travel to Old Carthusians in the AFA Senior Cup,
where we have a very good record in recent meetings, and
they will be hopeful to build on last weekend's
success. Elsewhere, the 3s travel to West Wickham in
the SAL and the 4s visit Walthamstow to face Egbertians in
the AFA Minor Cup.
On Sunday the youth teams are on their travels - the U12s
travel to Aldershot Town in the League Cup and the U14s are
at Predators in the League. Details of the U15s game
to follow.

Sep 2002 - Weekend Summary - well, if this is a
taste of what the season has to offer, bring your dad, mum,
brother, sister, girlfriend and best mates down to
Beddington Park. 9 goals, 1-0 up, 3-1 up, 3-4 down,
and finally running out 5-4 winners. Goals from Matt
Wigham 2, Dave Tilley, Dave Leach and Keith Cave gave the
Cars an ideal start to the season. Full match report
to follow.
Elsewhere, the sides had a
mixed start to the season. Tony Edwards missed a penalty and was
then sent off in the 2s' 1-1 draw at Weirside Rangers
(formerly Lensbury). Jason Winyard scored after 30
seconds - too early according to Charlie Sinclair. A 30 yard screamer from Ryan
Polley and another goal by Matt Huffer gave the 3s a point
on their return to Division 2. Old Stationers
equalised with a very late twice taken penalty. The 4s took an awful
pasting at Old Finchleians. They had a goal disallowed
and went in 0-1 down at half-time. After that the
floodgates opened. The 6s enjoyed success at Old
Finchleians with a fine 3-1 win, and Matt Osborne's match
report is well worth a read.
The Vets played very well to
win 3-1 at Maori, with captain Jim Finn scoring a last
minute own goal off his bald patch!
The
youth teams enjoyed a very successful Sunday, all winning
through to the next rounds of their respective Surrey Cups,
and with goals galore. Well done to all our youth
teams who have got off to flying starts this season.

Sep 2002 - John Gale - The John Gale Testimonial
Day was a huge success. Enough money was made, not
only to help finish a shower unit, but to buy John an
electric wheelchair. Needless to say, John and Carole
were delighted. People came and spent, spent, spent -
we all had a wonderful time. Our thanks to everyone
who generously donated their time, money and love.

and the Vets.

Sep 2002 - Weekend Summary - the 1s managed a 1-1
draw thanks to a Keith Cave special - described as
"sheer quality from the Peter Pan of SAL football"
by the man himself. John Thoroughgood
reports a strong showing by the boys and is optimistic about
the team's chances for this season.
The 2s took a scratch side to their friendly
with Old Addeyans and came away with a 3-3 draw. Jason
Winyard got a brace and Greg Stoddart also notched.
Manager Charlie Sinclair was disappointed with the result,
as they should have scored 6 or 7, but was delighted that
his players were fully committed against their very physical
opponents, especially with so many players unavailable and
others playing out of position.
Congratulations to our U12s
who were victorious in their first league game of the
season. They defeated Sheen Lions thanks to a hattrick
from Craig Stanley. Not to be outdone, the U14s
and U15s both beat last season's champions in their opening
league fixtures - what a start!!

Sep 2002 - Paul Gascoigne - contrary to reports on
Sky Sports News this week, Carshalton FC are not looking to
sign the ex England international. In an exclusive
interview for the web site, 1st XI manager, Paul Gunter,
stated that "...we had enough overweight prima donnas
in last season's team. Besides, we can't afford the
fee Paul's agent was asking - surely no clubhouse could hold
that number of Mars bars."
It is believed that Paul was
invited (begged) to speak to the Club by a long standing
(except on Saturdays) member of the 1st team. When we
tracked down Keith Cave in The Blackhorse (you really have
to try harder than that, Keith), his only statement was
"...just you remember that lob over Jon Pertwee in EURO
'96, you sarcastic Scottish git".
The Web Offices are open for
business again for 2002/03.

Sep 2002 - Friendlies -
the 1st XI lost 1-2 at Old Salesians on 31 August.
Salesians have replaced Carshalton in Division 1 this
season. Carshalton's man of the match was their
goalscorer Michael Winyard, a regular in last season's 2nd
XI. The 2s lost 0-1 at Salesians.
The Vets won 7-1 at
Wandsworth Borough on 7 September with a hattrick from Gavin
Dykes, a couple from Chris Moggridge and one apiece from
Carl "Shaggy" Dolan and Tony van Emst.
