October 2002 News Summary 28 Oct 2002 - Weekend Summary - The 1s recent run of good results came to an end when Nottsborough deserved their win, but the scoreline was a little flattering perhaps. The 2 had the result of the day (well they share the award with the 5s) when they travelled to Broomfield and returned with a 3-1 win. The 4s continued their recovery with a 3-1 home win over local rivals West Wickham. The 5s had an excellent 5-1 win on the road at Old Owens, where the phrase "Two Heads are better than one" was amply demonstrated with Martin and Steve scoring 4 of Carshalton's goals. The 6s crashed surprisingly at Polytechnic in the AFA Intermediate Novets Cup. The 7s recovered from last week's setback to defeat Old Finchleians, but the 8s had another bad day at the office with a 0-6 hammering at Norsemen. The 3s and Vets were without games this week.On Sunday there were home league wins for both the U12s and U14s, while our U15s were left without a game when the parents of West Middlesex Colts refused to travel because of the adverse weather conditions. Next week, all youth teams are at home in League Cup fixtures. A high turnout of Club members on the sidelines to cheer them on would be appreciated. 22 Oct 2002 - Clubhouse Break-in - Regrettably there has been a break-in at the Clubhouse this week. The usual damage and wanton destruction I'm afraid. Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to clear up the mess and secure the Clubhouse. It is important that we get Annual Subs in this weekend to help the Club's finances at this time. 20 Oct 2002 - Weekend Summary - The 1s outplayed South Bank CUACO in Dulwich and returned with their best scoreline of the season - a 4-1 win. The 2s had an excellent against 1st division opposition in the AFA Intermediate Cup. Tony Edwards scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot. The win was remarkable as keeper Terry Vinson had a recurrence of his tendon injury in his finger during the warm-up and managed to play the whole of the game, basically only using one hand! It must have been some game, as we have received the first 2nd XI report since 8th December 2001!!! The 3s came back from 2 goals down at Salesians to win 3-2 in their SAL clash. The 4s made the recovery of the day. After losing 10-1 at E.B.O.G. in controversial circumstances last week, they recorded a 1-0 win over Polytechnic. So a return to normality there. The 5s lost at Polytechnic, while the 6s cruised to another comfortable league win, this time 5-2 over Civil Service. The 7s threw away a 2-0 half-time lead against Old Actonians 9s to lose 2-4, while the 8s made a hasty exit from the AFA Junior Novets Cup with a 1-8 drubbing at the hands of a very impressing Old Finchleians. The Vets were pleased with their 1-1 draw against a much fitter and younger H.A.C. vets side. On Sunday, the U15s knocked out the holders in the Surrey Cup, Meadow Sport after an excellent 2-1 win away. The U12s were not as successful, falling 2-5 to a very strong Woking Cougars side. 19 Oct 2002 - AFA Rep Side - Congratulations to Neil Backers who has been selected to represent the AFA against The Army FA at the Military Stadium, Queens Avenue, Aldershot on Wednesday 30th October KO 19:30 12 Oct 2002 - Weekend Summary - Plenty of goals and loads of controversy this weekend. The 1s won a tight game at home to Weirside Rangers with Keith Cave scoring in the last 2 minutes with a diving header to secure the points. Dave Etukudo had opened the scoring, but Lensbury (I'm sorry but I can't cope with their new name) equalised. I was asked, by certain long-standing members of the 1st team squad, to report that Keith's goal was deflected, but I can't do that to "Mr Carshalton". The 2s won through to the next round of the AFA Surrey Intermediate Cup after defeating Old Grammarians in extra time. Despite the team scoring 6 goals, Tony Edwards still hasn't broken his duck this season - married life obviously affecting his performance. The 3s also won in the cup, disposing of Old Meadonians 2-0 in the AFA Junior Cup. Dave Robins opened his account for the season and the eagerly anticipated return of Jonathan Phillips yielded the other goal. And so to the main controversy - the 4s 1-10 defeat at E.B.O.G.s. The scoreline does not tell the whole story - 5 Carshalton players booked, 2 Carshalton keepers sent off for "professional" fouls and 4 penalties awarded against Carshalton. An internal Club inquiry has been launched and we will be speaking to E.B.O.G.s to find out their version of events (read their report on the game) . The referee's report will make interesting reading. Team Secretary Trevor Boughton has written his report on the proceedings and we will be submitting an official report to the SAL. No details yet on the 5s win at E.B.O.G, but the 6s win over Crouch End has generated a very unique piece of reporting by Matt Osborne - very entertaining if not totally focusing on the events of the game. Matt Parker's report on the 7s win at Norsemen is another good read. The 8s hit 6 against Old Stationers 7s. Last season's Golden Boot winner Michael Pickett hit 4 and Elliott Stevens scored the other 2. These 2 have shared the 10 goals the 8s have scored this season. The vets lost 0-1 at Old Grammarians. Our youth teams did us proud again this week. The U12s completely outplayed Cheam Merton Vultures to record a handsome victory in a local derby marred by misconduct from home spectators. The prolific Craig Stanley grabbed another hat-trick, but star of the show was the impressive Lewis West with a towering performance at the back. The U14s did very well to come away with a 2-1 win at Woking Town Youth. The U15s went top of the league with an outstanding performance and result in beating last season's Surrey Cup winners 5-2. Read Lee Tupper's excellent report for further details. 10 Oct 2002 - Cup Draw - The U12s have been drawn at home to Camberley Jaguars in the first round of the West Surrey Youth League Cup on Sunday 3 November. All supporters welcome. 6 Oct 2002 - Weekend Summary - Another disappointing weekend for the 1st XI who had more late cry-offs and travelled to Old Parkonians with a weakened side. Not surprisingly they lost 1-2, with Dave Leach scoring from the spot. The 2s fought out an entertaining 1-1 draw at home to Alexandra Park - Steve Dungey scoring to cancel out Ally Pally's bizarre opened, which has to go down as a Terry Vinson own goal, the ball cannoning off the bar and rebounding off the unfortunate keeper. On the 2nd team pitch, the 3s did well to defeat Bank Of England with a couple of late goals. Ryan Polley opened the scoring and the late goals were courtesy of Alex Booker and Gary Cummings. The 4s shipped another heap of goals, but managed a Chris Morris hattrick to keep the score respectable. The 5s first game of the season ended in a last gasp 3-2 win in the AFA Cup at home to Kew Association. Martin Head scored twice and Danny Berry added another. "If we hadn't scored in the last minute, we'd never have survived another 30 minutes" said Trevor Boughton in the bar afterwards. The 6s AFA Cup tie with Old Meadonians did not take place when Meadonians cried off at 2.10pm!!! Not a very popular decision with the boys whose Saturday afternoon was ruined. No doubt there will be an official letter on its way. Ryan Roberts' 7s won well at Old Stationers with goals from the skipper himself, two from Colin Banham and an own goal (nice report from Matt Parker as well). The 8 perished 4-7 at Norsemen with last season's joint top scorer Michael Pickett grabbing a hattrick. The Vets went down 1-3 at Nat West with Dean Parfitt netting for the old boys. On Sunday, the U12s hammered Hampton Rangers 6-0 to continue their impressive start to the season. Unfortunately, despite dominating the game, the U14s lost 0-2 to the league leaders Staines Town. The best result of all was the U15s 2-0 win over Corinthian Casuals. Well done to all involved with our youth set up. |
