November 2002

News Summary

30 Nov 2002 - Weekend Review - sadly the 1s were let down by a player who decided not to show for the meet.  Consequently they had to travel to Weirside Rangers with a bare 11 men and returned with a 1-3 defeat.  The Committee will not accept this behaviour.  It let down the entire Club.  The 2s produced a dismal performance and deserved to be knocked out of the AFA Intermediate Cup by a very ordinary Old Cholmeleians.  Thankfully the 3s showed us that there is a rosy future for the Club with a number of excellent youngsters and a handful of wrinklies defeating Lloyds TSB Bank 7-2.

The 4s lost at Civil Service in the AFA Minor Cup and the 5s crashed against a very strong West Wickham side.  The lower sides kept the results respectable with the 6s winning at Winchmore Hill in the SAL Cup (the holders are now in the semi finals), the 7s winning at Polytechnic to move into 2nd place in the league, and the 8s thumping bottom of the table Old Stationers 7-1.

The Vets had to pull out of their AFA Cup tie at Old Parmiterians after a number of non availables - playing golf in South Africa, under-age players, Peter Culham in Norwich and a player unable to make the meet time.  So they played locally against Temple Bar, the match finishing 3-3.

Once again the youth teams had a field day.  The U12s came back from another early goal to go top of the league with a 5-2 win over Camberley Jaguars and the U15s thumped Carshalton Rangers 8-1.  Does anyone know what has happened to our U14 team over the past month?

The Quiz Night on Friday was very enjoyable, but once again we failed to get enough support from Club members.  Thanks to those who did turn out.

25 Nov 2002 - Change Of Skippers - after a 1 week tenure, Mark Lowther has stepped down as 3s skipper and Matt Huffer and Dave Jenvey will be running the side for the rest of the season.  The Committee wishes them well.

24 Nov 2002 - Weekend Review  - the weather got the better of the away fixtures.  Thankfully Beddington Park was playable again and we managed to get some football in.  The 2s secured another draw in a hard fought game with Nottsborough - Brendan Griffin scoring the Carshalton goal.  The 3s lost surprisingly to Holland Park Old Boys in the AFA Junior Cup - a bad day at the office apparently.  The 5s (under new stewardship) drew in the league with BB Eagles and the 6s came completely off the rails with a 2-6 mauling at the hands of H.S.B.C.  The 7s had a field day in their AFA Junior Novets Cup ties with Old Salvatorians, romping to a 6-1 win.  The Vets were the only side to play away and returned from Blackheath Wanderers with a creditable 2-2 draw.  This will put them in good heart for their difficult trip next week to face Old Parmiterians in the AFA Veterans Cup.

The U12s beat Carshalton Athletic in a tense game, Craig Stanley's 2 goals taking his tally to 23 this season!  The U15s game was called off when Hampton Youth called to say that they could not raise a team because of a rugby tournament - that's a new one.

17 Nov 2002 - Change Of Skippers - 3s manager Graham Polley has had to step down due to work commitments.  Mark Lowther is taking over, to be assisted by Matt Huffer and Dave Jenvey.  We thank Graham for the excellent job he has done forming the side and taking them to their current top 4 position.

5s skipper Mark Crawley also resigned on Saturday.  Martin Head has stepped in to run the side.

17 Nov 2002 - Weekend Review  - having come back from 1-3 down with 10 men at 1st division Civil Service to level the game at 3-3, it was bitterly disappointing for the 1s to lose a goal in the last minute to be knocked out of the AFA Senior Cup.  However there were a lot of positives to come from the game.  The 2s were knocked out of the AFA Surrey Intermediate Cup by Zurich Eagle Star's 1st XI.  After 90 minutes the teams were locked at 3-3, but the visitors won the game with some excellent finishes that took full advantage of Ross Sinclair's serious knee injury that will see him missing between the sticks for some time.

The 3s march on with an easy 4-2 win in the park over Broomfield.  The 5s struggled to a disappointing home defeat to Crouch End Vampires and it is worrying to report that 3 Carshalton players were booked for dissent by a club referee - totally unacceptable.  The 7s also lost at home, this time 2-3 to E.B.O.G. 7s.  At least the Vets had a success - 2-0 at Chelsea Old Players.

The 4s, 6s and 8s all fell victim to the weather at H.S.B.C, Old Parmiterians and Old Finchleians respectively.

Our youth teams had another successful Sunday.  The U12s won again in the league thanks to a hattrick from Craig Stanley, bringing this season's haul to 21.  The U15s had an excellent 5-1 win away to Chipstead in the Surrey Cup.  An incredible 10 wins in a row.

10 Nov 2002 - AFA Representative Side - Congratulations Neil Backers who has been selected for the AFA Rep side to play the Navy on Wednesday 13th November at Dulwich Hamlet's Ground, KO 7pm

3 Nov 2002 - Fireworks Night - Congratulations to everyone that was involved in organising the highly successful Fireworks Night that took place on Sunday.  It was estimated that over 200 people attended the event and over £450 was raised.  The Committee have allocating this money to improving facilities for the Youth Section.  Thanks to all for your support, especially the Polleys and the parents of the U14s and U15s for manning the kitchen.

3 Nov 2002 - Craig Stanley - Our U12s have lost their top goalscorer, Craig Stanley, before Sunday's game.  Craig scored 21 goals in 11 games, and has left us to trial with Crystal Palace.  We wish him well.

3 Nov 2002 - Weekend Review - Quite an impressive set of results this week.  The 1s returned to winning ways against lowly Old Finchleians to put us second in the league.  We left it late after going a goal down in the opening couple of minutes, equalising on the hour and scoring the winners in injury time.  Can anyone explain how exactly South Bank CUACO managed to beat Old Parks 5-0?!  The 2s continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comprehensive 4-1 win over previously unbeaten Winchmore Hill, which sees them also in second place.  The 3s and 4s had easy wins in their AFA Cup games at the BBC and Old Eastbournians respectively (Jay Bream scoring all 4 goals for the 4s and topping the Golden Boot as a consequence).  The 5s lost their SAL Cup tie at Old Parmiterians.

The 6s made it 4 wins out of 4 in the league as they strolled to a 3-1 win over Norsemen, and the 7s won through at HSBC in the SAL Cup with a thrilling 3-2 victory.  In contrast, the 8s have been struggling all season and lost again, this time to EBOGs 7s.

The Vets continue to terrify their opponents and for the second round in a row, their opponents failed to raise a team.  The BBC managed to leave it until 2 hours before the kickoff before calling us to say they only had 6 men for their home game.  Can the Vets go all the way... without kicking a ball?

The youth teams all did us proud again, with all teams comfortably through to the next rounds of their respective League Cups.
