Summary
29
Jan. 2003 - Discipline - to the shame of the Club,
Carshalton have the worst disciplinary record in the
SAL. To counter this, the following changes to the
Disciplinary Code are to take immediate effect...
- Club
ban is 1 week for a booking, 2 weeks for a sending off,
with an additional week if the offence is dissent
- Club
bans will be served on HOME GAMES
- From
27 Jan. any player committing 2 separate offences
(caution or sending off) will be invited before The
Committee
- A
Club administration fee of £3 is being introduced.
For delayed payment, this rises to £6.
Therefore, a booking costs the player £10 - £7
AFA fine and £3 Club Admin fee. Delayed payment of this fine raises the cost to £20 -
£14 AFA fine and £6 Club Admin fee. The fine
must be paid on the day to a Committee member or the
skipper. Skippers MUST pay in the fine money
before or at the next Selection meeting.
Note that the Club bans are
in addition to any AFA / SAL bans. The message is
clear - if you get booked or sent off for dissent, you will
miss at least 2 home games in addition to the suspension
handed out by the AFA / SAL.
Think
before you open your mouth. You let down your team
mates, your Club and, most of all, yourself.

Jan. 2003 - Visit of Montreuil Bellay FC - to
celebrate the 25th anniversary of our association with our
friends from Montreuil-Bellay, the Club is organising an
ambitious schedule where we will host them over Easter and
we will travel to France over the Whitsun
weekend.
The skippers have been asked
to promote both tours and we are asking for volunteers to
host players, supporters and officials from Montreuil Bellay
on Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 April to make
thems4elves known to John Thoroughgood.
Anyone who has been on to
France on tour will know what to expect. New members and tour
virgins are encouraged to talk to those who have been
previously - it is a scream and not to be missed.
Places will be reserved on a first come, first served
basis. See John Thoroughgood.

Jan 2003 - Weekend Review - delays for updating the
web site were caused by only 1 skipper phoning their scores
through at the weekend. Hopefully Monday's Committee
Meeting has sorted out this problem and normal service can
be resumed.
2 more points dropped at home
was the opinion of most observers watching the 1s 0-0 draw
with Lloyds TSB Bank. A similar story for the 2s who
drew 1-1 with lowly Old Salesians in a game that was
switched to Beddington Park due to the condition of the
Salesians' pitch. The 3s miserable run continued with
a 0-3 defeat at Old Esthameians. Dave Jenvey chipped
his ankle, but "did the Carshalton thing" by
playing through to the end of the game, driving home, and
going out for a curry. Hope you get back soon
Dave. We all wish you a speedy recovery.
The 4s cup game at Old
Parmiterians was a victim of the weather (the 4th time their
SAL Cup games have been postponed this season). The 5s
enjoyed an important win over Old Owens that eases their
relegation fears for a while. Performance of the day
was the 6s' 5-0 hammering of H.S.B.C. in the SAL Cup semi
final. Carshalton as holders were determined to hold
on to their trophy and ran out convincing winners.
Matt Osborne has written a report (perhaps the pressure of
skippering the side is proving too much for Matt - just read
it). In the Minor Section the 7s went down to leaders
Old Actonians 9s and the 8s had a very rewarding trip to Old
Finchleians, winning 4-1 on their travels to close the gap
on the 7s.
On Sunday the U12s somehow
contrived to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against
Camberley Jaguars. The U15s were without a game.
19 Jan 2003 - Weekend Review -
the 1s came back from the shock of conceding 2 goals in the
opening 5 minutes to draw with South Bank CUACO 2-2.
The 2s remain top of Division 2 with an unbeaten record
after their 3-2 win at South Bank CUACO. They also
came back from 0-2 down but went one better with 2 goals
from Stuart Dunne and a winner from Ryan Polley. The
4s were also successful at Turney Road with a convincing 5-0
win in their 3 times postponed SAL Cup 1st Round match. They
travel to Old Parmiterians in the next round this coming
weekend. The 5s were extremely disappointed to come
away with nothing after at 1-3 defeat at Old Latymerians.
James Robins' report is well worth a read.
Back at Beddington Park, the
6s moved into second place with a close 2-1 win over Kew
Association. The 7s threw away a 4-0 lead to lose
their AFA Junior Novets Cup tie with Civil Service 5-6.
Sounds quite a game! And the 8s had a similar
experience in the SAL Cup. After clawing their way
back from 0-2 down to level at 2-2 then to recover to 3-3
after both full time and extra time, Pete Taylor's charges
went out on penalties - the ever dependable Dave Paterson
missing the all important penalty. Apparently it was
low tide!
The Vets managed to arrange a
friendly at short notice and Bobby Horn's goal earned them a
1-1 draw at Honourable Artillery Company. Note that
this coming weekend's planned game with Temple Bar has been
postponed because they have a London Banks Cup tie.
On Sunday the youth teams
continued their march to silverware. The U12s
demolished the much fancied Hook Youth 6-2, while the U15s
waltzed into the League Cup semi finals with a thumping 8-1
win over Hampton Youth.

Jan 2003 - Weekend Review - the only game to
survive the extreme weather conditions on Saturday was the
Vets game at Economicals. Gavin Dykes grabbed a couple
and further goals from Tony van Emst and Bobby Horn gave Jim
Finn's a handsome 4-0 win.
On Sunday the U14s were the
only game to play and scored with a couple of minutes left
to earn a 5-5 draw at Staines Town. Real end to end
stuff according to Lee Tupper who watched the game.

Jan 2003 - Weekend Review - too many fixtures were
affected by the weather this week. All away games fell
victim to waterlogged pitches and the home games on the
council pitches were also a washout. Thankfully the
club pitches were playable, and in excellent
condition. The 2s took full advantage to beat Weirside
Rangers and extend their lead at the top of the
division. The game was marred by a serious injury to
Matt Dudley after a "reckless" challenge. The whole Club wishes you
a speedy
recovery.
On the other pitch the 3s
played out an exciting match, but were unable to convert
their pressure and chances and lost 1-2. "All our
games are on a knife edge, and that is the way it should
be" said skipper Matt Huffer.
