Feb 2003 - Get Well Soon - Carshalton FC wish Jack
Malin of the under 12s a speedy recovery from his broken arm
that he suffered during Sunday's win over top of the table
Hanworth Villa. He needed an operation to reset the
break and he has just got out of hospital. What a way
to celebrate your birthday! I thought is was 18 when
you were allowed to get plastered. Get well soon Jack.

Feb 2003 - Best Wishes - Carshalton FC send their
best wishes to the West Wickham 5th XI left back who we
believe suffered a fit at the end of their game at the
weekend. We hope he will be back on his feet and
playing football again soon.

Feb 2003 - Weekend Review - Although the top sides
didn't fare well this week, the lower sides certainly made
up for it. On the down side, the 1s, 3s, 4s and 5s all
lost - although the 1s were unlucky to come away with
nothing, as were the 4s who lost to top of the table HSBC in
an entertaining match on the 1st team pitch at Beddington.
There were 2 notable
performances which should not go unmentioned. Firstly
the 6s took top spot in the league with a 2-1 win at
previous leaders Polytechnic. It looks to be a
straight fight between these clubs and Norsemen for the
title. Secondly the 8s defeated leaders Old Actonians
9s 1-0, despite fielding President Thoroughgood at the heart
of the defence. In the other game, the 7s overcame Old
Stationers 7s 6-0 to continue their wretched
season.
The Vets game had to be
called off because too many teachers were on half term
skiing breaks!!!
The youth teams had great
success with the U12s closing the gap on their opponents at
the top of the table to just 5 points with a game in
hand. The U14s went to with a 5-0 thumping of
Aldershot Town and the U15s

Feb 2003 - Weekend Review - the 4s put in a good
showing to reach the SAL Minor Cup final with a 3-2 win over
Old Latymerians, who had won all 7 of their SAL fixtures
with plenty to spare. An own goal was followed by
strikes for Golden Boot leader Michael Pickett and Alex
Corner. Skipper Danny Glennister was in buoyant mood
after the game, especially given how many regulars were
unavailable. They will meet Winchmore Hill in the
final after they won 4-1 at Alexandra Park. Date and
venue is yet to be announced.
Elsewhere, a severely
depleted 1stXI lost at Old
Lyonians, while the 2s struggled to get a point at bottom of
the table Salesians, but remain top of the division. The
3s seem to have turned a corner with their second successive
away win, this time at Lloyds TSB Bank, to put themselves
right back in the promotion mixer. The 5s earned
another point and look safe, even though it is a very tight
division.
The 6s spanked another side -
this week it was bottom of the table Parmiterians who were
put to the sword by a scoreline of 6-2. The 7s game at
EBOG was called off, but the 8s enjoyed a nice win over
Polytechnic
On Sunday,the U14s went
second in the league by beating Staines Town Juniors 5-2.

Feb 2003 - Weekend Review - the 1s gave a much more
pleasurable performance against lowly opposition in Old
Stationers. Though the result (2-2 draw) was not all
that could have been hoped for, the attitude and commitment
was much improved. The liberal sprinkling of younger
players certainly helped.
The 3s put themselves back in
the promotion shake-up by winning 2-1 at BB Eagles.
The 4s prepared for next week's SAL Cup Semi Final by
securing a comfortable 2-0 win over Old Esthameians.
They face an Old Latymerians side who look very powerful on
paper, having won all 7 of their Division 3 games this
season at a canter. The game is at Beddington Park
with a 2pm kick off.
The 5s visit to Crouch End
Vampires resulted in 3 very welcomed points and a clean
sheet to boot! The 6s smashed Old Actonians 8-3 at
home as they continue to battle it out with Norsemen (who
beat Kew 6-2) for the Division 1 title. The 7s and 8s
both lost in their league games at Old Finchleians and HSBC
respectively, though Pete Wetheridge did score a hattrick
for the 7s (and still lost). The Vets had another easy win, this time
a 5-0 drubbing of Old Tiffinians (Gavin Dykes getting 4!)
On Sunday, the U12s made
short work of Banstead Rangers, currently top of the Epsom
and Ewell League, by putting 8 past them. There is no
news yet of the 2 Surrey Cup quarter finals that were played
by our U14s and U15s.
9
Feb 2003 - AFA Surrey Senior Cup Final - will be played at Beddington Park on Saturday 22nd March
with a 3pm kick off. We have hosted previous cup
finals and it has been very successful. The Committee
asks that all members extend a warm welcome to players,
officials and supporters of the competing clubs. Bank Of England's
opponents in the semi final are not clear at this stage, but
the winners will play either Nottsborough or HSBC (semis to
be played 8 March).

Feb 2003 - Club Secretary - please note that,
following the resignation of Tracey Polley in December, John
Thoroughgood has taken on the role of Club Secretary in
addition to his role as Club President. Tracey
continues in her role as Social secretary.

Feb 2003 - French Trip Update - please note that
the coach and ferry crossings have been booked and paid for
the trip to Montreuil Bellay. We leave on the 22:45
Dover to Calais boat on Thu. 22 May, returning on the 20:30
crossing on Mon. 26 May.
Your skippers have been asked
to take names of those interesting in this fabulous
weekend. Remember, you pay virtually nothing once
you're there. They are fantastic hosts.

Feb 2003 - Weekend Review - another dismal weekend
weatherwise with so many games called off (in fact the 1st
XI games at Beddington Park and West Wickham were the only
SAL games played). The 1s will
wish that their game with Winchmore Hill had also fallen
victim to the weather. The visitors ran out
comfortable 4-1 winners in a very entertaining game,
especially in the first half.
The only other competitive Carshalton game to beat the
weather was more successful. The 4s reached the SAL
Cup semi final after overcoming Old Parmiterians at
Walthamstow. Despite throwing away a 4-0 half time
lead, Carshalton came back to lead 5-4, but a last minute
goal pegged them back again. There were no further
goals in extra time so the game went to penalties.
Skipper Danny Glennister saved 2 spot kicks and it was left
to the trusty right boot of Richard Verlander to score the
winning penalty to send the 4s through to a semi final date
on 15th February at home to Old
Latymerians. Alexandra Park host Winchmore Hill in the
other semi.
On Sunday the only game
played was the U12s league match with Cheam Merton
Vultures. The tie was switched from a waterlogged
Beddington Park, but the boys rallied to win 3-0.
