Summary
31
Mar 2003 - Weekend Review - highlight of the
weekend was definitely the 4s' SAL Cup winning performance
at HSBC Sports Ground in Beckenham against Winchmore
Hill. The boys didn't panic when they went behind to
an early penalty and equalised before halftime. They
ran riot as Winchmore tired and wrapped up a comfortable win
with 3 unanswered second half goals. We've been
promised a Steve Winton report on the game and you can link
to a couple of photos from the 4th XI page or the right hand
column of this page. Well done to Danny and the boys
for an excellent performance.
Elsewhere, the 1s and 5s
finished off their season with disappointing defeats on
their travels. The 2s dropped more valuable home
points following a 0-0 draw with Broomfield and the 3s also
fought out a 0-0 draw. The 6s and 7s both had damaging
defeats, while the 8s ran riot against Norsemen.

Mar 2003 - AFA Surrey Senior Cup Final - this game
is being hosted by Carshalton FC on Saturday 29th March
with a 3pm kick off at Beddington Park. Old Wokingians
and
Nottsborough will contest the final. The Committee
requests all members to extend a warm welcome to players,
officials and supporters of these clubs.

Mar 2003 - SAL Intermediate Novets Cup Final - the
SAL has ordered this to be replayed after Norsemen FC
disclosed that the player who came on in the second half and
scored their final 2 goals was in fact a 1st XI
player. We thank Norsemen FC for their integrity in
this matter and hope that the replay is played in the
correct spirit by both sides. Date and venue are to be
advised by the SAL.
16 Mar 2003 - Weekend Review -
at last the 1s seem to have made sure of their place in the
division with a fine 2-0 win at Lloyds TSB Bank - Matt
Wigham and Ryan Polley were the scorers. The 2s also
had an important win to keep themselves at the top of
division 2. The 3s drew with Civil Service and seem
destined for a mid table finish. The 4s lost for the
3rd week in a row and Danny Glennister will be keen to
arrest the slump before their SAL Cup final. The 8s
won comfortably at EBOGs and the Vets turned over an
impressive Nat West Bank side.
The 6s failed in their bid to
retain the SAL Intermediate Novets Cup when they lost 2-4 at
West Wickham to Norsemen. It was a good game in very
difficult conditions and credit to both teams for trying to
play football. Both teams hit the bar with rasping
drives and it could have gone either way, but Norsemen
proved to be the stronger team on the day. It looks
like these 2 team will also be battling it out for the
league title as well, though Poly are also in close
contention.
10
Mar 2003 - Youth Cup Finals - the U15s have reached
the final of the League Cup, but their opponents are not
clear, as the other semi final had to be abandoned because
of fighting on and off the pitch. Rumour has it that
they may be awarded the cup as the other semi finalists have
been thrown out. As the picture clears, we'll let you
know.
The U14s reached the final of
the Surrey Cup with a stunning 4-3 win over a much fancied
Whyteleafe side. The winning goal came with 2 minutes
to go and was a thunderous free kick. They will play Predators
in the final and we'll let you know of date and venue once
we are informed.

Mar 2003 - Get Well Soon - to Michael Winyard who
was badly injured during the 1s game at Old
Stationers. This week he underwent an operation to
reconstruct his face after a nasty clash last
Saturday. All his friends at Carshalton FC wish him a
speedy recovery.

Mar 2003 - Weekend Review - things are looking
increasingly precarious for the 1s as they suffered another
defeat against lowly opposition. Large numbers of
unavailable players certainly does not help their cause and
we still need at least another win from the remaining 4
fixtures to be safe.
The 2s managed to snatch
another draw from the jaws of victory, after being 3-0 up
with half an hour to go. The 3s returned to winning
ways with an excellent 3-1 victory over a skillful Old
Esthameians side who scored after 10 seconds! The 4s
and 6s seem to have cup finals on their minds as they both
lost surprisingly in the league. The 5s also lost in a
very close game with Old Esthameians, eventually settled by
a very soft goal.
The 8s upset the form book by
defeating the 7s in as local a derby as you can get, and
finally the Vets lost to a very strong HAC side.
On Sunday, the U12s lost
ground on the leaders with a 1-1 draw with Surrey Rangers
after the game had to be switched because of waterlogged
pitches at Beddington Park.

Mar 2003 - AFA Surrey Senior Cup Final - the AFA
have moved this game to Saturday 29th March
with a 3pm kick off at Beddington Park. Old Wokingians
and
Nottsborough will contest the final. The Committee
requests all members to extend a warm welcome to players,
officials and supporters of these clubs.
