April 2003 News Summary 29 Apr 2003 - Saturday's Fixtures - this is the final Saturday of the season and the 2s, 4s, 6s, 7s and 8s are in action. The 2s trail Old Finchleians by 3 points with an inferior goal difference. Should Finchleians lose to Winchmore Hill in their final game, the 2s would require to win by 6 clear goals against bottom of the table Alleyn Old Boys on Saturday. The 4s play their home game with BB Eagles at HSBC's ground in Beckenham, as we no longer have pitches at Beddington. Good luck to Matt Osborne's 6th XI in their SAL Cup Final against Norsemen (KO 3pm at Kew Association's ground). We hope as many supporters as possible will make their way to support the boys. The 7s complete their season with a trip to Norsemen and the 8s face Old Actonians in Gunnersbury Park 29 Apr 2003 - U15s Update - it looks like the league title is between Carshalton (37 points from 14 games +37 goal difference), Meadow Sports (34 from 14, +23) and West Middlesex Colts (28 from 12, +33). Carshalton have still to travel to West Middlesex, and Meadow Sports and West Middlesex have to play each other. Obviously we'll keep you updated as the results come in. Carshalton U15s are chasing a league and cup double as they face Motspur Park in the League Cup Final on Sunday 4th May. 27 Apr 2003 - U12s Latest - with a much depleted side, the U12s lost at Hook Youth on Friday, but won well on Sunday at Sheen Lions to keep themselves in 3rd place. Next Sunday they are away to Carshalton Athletic who lie in 2nd place. We expect to have a full squad for the first time in weeks, and Jack Malin seems to have recovered from his broken arm, and so he should also be available. 15 Apr 2003 - Midweek Results - the 4s lost 0-1 at Polytechnic, but are already edging towards mid table respectability, so no worries there. The 7s dispelled any relegation fears with a 4-1 win at H.S.B.C. Stand in skipper Danny Gazzelloni is pleased to be handing back the stewardship of the side to Raaz Roberts (there is of course a little matter of election of skippers for next season) - "I have found out how tough it is to get players together for a Saturday game, but am VERY,VERY pleased that I have managed to captain the 7ths away from relegation". 15 Apr 2003 - Doug Barnes - it is with regret that we have to announce the death of Doug Barnes at the age of 53 after a short illness. Doug represented the 1st XI in goal during the 1979 / 80 season. He won a winners medal for the AFA Surrey Senior cup after a fine display in the 1-0 final win over CENTYMCA. The club extends its sympathy to Doug's family at this time. His funeral takes place at Croydon Crematorium on Thursday 17 April at 4pm. Click to read an article on Doug on the iccroydon web site. 14 Apr 2003 - U15s Update - it looks like the league title is between Carshalton (34 points from 15 games +35 goal difference), Meadow Sports (28 from 12, +19) and West Middlesex Colts (25 from 11, +30). Carshalton have still to travel to West Middlesex and Meadow Sports and West Middlesex have to play each other. Obviously we'll keep you updated as the results come in. Carshalton U15s are chasing a league and cup double as they face Motspur Park in the League Cup Final on Sunday 4th May. 13 Apr 2003 - Weekend Review - the 2s had a vitally important win at Old Finchleians to put them in with a shout for promotion to Division 1. Shaun Swan and Jonathan Phillips scored the goals in a 2-1 away win. The 4s were disappointed to come away with only a point from Old Esthamieans, but goals from Adam Taylor and Golden Boot leader Michael Pickett should have made sure of their Division 1 status. There was little success at Beddington Park where the 6s lost 0-4 to Old Finchleians, the 8s lost 3-6 to Norsemen 7s despite Andy Newbold notching another brace and Elliott Stevens also scoring, and the Vets finished off their season with a 0-4 defeat at the hands of Old Grammarians. The outstanding fixtures are displayed in the right-hand column of this page. 3 games are still be be arranged, and we'll let you know dates as soon as Joe Cox tells us. I can't remember a season when so few fixtures are outstanding at the start of April. I suppose getting knocked out of cups early on and our well maintained home pitches has "helped". 13 Apr 2003 - U12s Update - Captain, Daniel Johnson, has injured his foot in training. He ended up at the hospital for treatment and is now on crutches and out for a month. In addition, top scorer Craig Stanley has been released after failing to turn up for weeks on end for either training or important matches. 9 Apr 2003 - Weekend Review - a much better set of results this week with pride of place going to the 2s who gave themselves a real shot at promotion with a double over Bank of England. They still need something out of Saturday's game at Finchleians and 3 points against bottom of the table Old Alleyns to be sure. The 3s finished in mid table after collecting a point in their double header with title chasing Nottsborough. The 4s should have made themselves safe from relegation after wins at the weekend and tonight and will be looking to climbing into the top half of the table. The 6s scored a vital win over title rivals Polytechnic and can only hope for maximum points from their 2 remaining games and a couple of slip-ups from their SAL Cup Final opponents Norsemen. Elsewhere, the 7s beat E.B.O.G 7s in North London and the 8s drew with leaders Old Finchleians 8s, while the Vets drew 1-1 with goalscoring legend Bobby Horn. 2 Apr 2003 - U14 Surrey Cup Final - Carshalton U14s will play Predators at Chipstead FC's ground at High Street, Chipstead on Sunday 18 May, KO 2pm. Good luck to Trevor Knight and his team. 2 Apr 2003 - U15 WSYL Cup Final - the opponents for the U15s League Cup Final has been decided. The boys will face Motspur Park at Corinthians Casuals ground at King George V Playing Fields, Hook Rise South, Tolworth on Sunday 4 May, with the game kicking off at 2pm. We hope the Club members will turn out to support the lads in their bid for further silverware. 2 Apr 2003 - Easter French Visit - unfortunately our friends from Montreuil Bellay are unable to make it over this Easter. Therefore, in the 25th anniversary of our association, it is very important that we fulfill our plans to travel on the Whitsun weekend to France. All those interested in what is a weekend not to be missed must contact John Thoroughgood as soon as possible. |
