September 2003

News Summary

30 Sep 2003 - Weekend Review - we can only comment on games that we have ANY feedback on, so... The 6s fielded many of the U16s and strolled to an easy win at H.S.B.C. against a good side.  Bodes well for the future.  The Vets won with a Bobby Horn header in a tight game.  The U9s and U13s matches were postponed when the opposition were unable to raise a side.  The U13s get the points for their league game.  The U15s went down 5-0 in the League Cup, probably because they only fielded 9 players!  The U16s won through to the next round of the League Cup where they will travel to Uxbridge Colts.

22 Sep 2003 - Weekend Review - the 1s threw away a 2-0 lead after 3 minutes!! to lose to a goal in injury time at Nottsborough.  1st XI reports are a bit like London busses.  You don't see one since February and 2 come along at once.  Both Ian Lewis and Andy Cook have contributed reports, which is hugely encouraging.  Surely literary skills aren't making a comeback in the higher echelons of the Club!?  Certainly not in the 2s, where no-one seems to be able to operate a PC, phone, pigeon,...  Come on lads, who has scored your goals this season?

The 3s and 4s both suffered losses at E.B.O.G. and the Vets were outclassed at Maori by a much younger side.

On Sunday the U16 continued their 100% record in the league, while the U15s lost.  They had to use 3 different keeper as injuries piled up, and one player required hospital treatment.  The U13s totally outclassed Old Coulsdon Colts and face St Francis Sports (Guildford & Shere Premier division champions) in the next round of the Surrey Cup.  The U9s won 1-0 at Tooting & Mitcham in their first ever league match.

17 Sep 2003 - 3rd Team News - the 3s actually won 4-1 at Old Esthameians.  The result on the SAL web site is incorrect.  Thanks to Dave Glennister for pointing this out and supplying goalscorers.  Would all teams note that results and scorers are supposed to be phoned through on the day of the game.  Skipper know the number to call.

14 Sep 2003 - Weekend Review - a very inexperienced 1st XI lost 1-4 at EBOG.  But elsewhere there was encouraging news as the 2s won at Old Salesians and both the 3s and 4s had excellent wins at Old Esthameians.  If anyone from the 1s, or 2s would like to let us know their scorers, that would be helpful.

The U9s had a comfortable final warm-up game and the U13s and U16s opened their Premier league campaigns with fine away wins.  The U15s also had a creditable performance with a 2-2 draw at Sutton United.

10 Sep 2003 - Bar News - it appears that an administrative error by the Cricket Club has resulted in there being no bar licence.  The application has now been submitted, but these take at least 28 days to process, so we will start the season without a bar.  Your Committee is making provisions for the first few weeks of the season, but under no circumstances is ANYONE to open the bar until the licencing issue has been resolved, as the consequences are imprisonment and a fine that would put the Club out of existence.
5 Sep 2003 - Youth AFA Cup News - the U13s have reached the semi final of the AFA Cup without kicking a ball after receiving a bye in round 1 and their opponents in the quarter finals (Kew Youth) scratching from the tournament.

The U15s also have a bye through to the first round where they will travel to Whitewebbs Eagles on 30 Nov.

The U16s face a long trip to Norsemen in Edminton for their Preliminary Round match on 2 Nov.
