December 2003
News
Summary
16 Dec 2003 - Weekend
Review - the 1s made it through to the last 16 of
the Surrey FA Intermediate Cup with a narrow 2-1 win over
Milford & Witney, despite a number of notable
absentees. Goals from Michael Pickett and Mark Raven
were enough, despite the obligatory missed penalty from Matt
Wigham! They will face Continental Stars at Beddington
Park on 17 January. Reports are already in from Ian
Lewis and Mark Raven!!
Other results were generally not so good. The 2s lost
ground on the leaders with a 2-4 defeat at Weirside
Rangers. The 3s match was called off when too many
players either cried off or were never available. This
will result in points deduction and a fine. The
Committee will discuss this matter at tomorrow's meeting and
action will be taken against those who have tarnished the
reputation of the Club.
The 4s, 5s and 7s lost, while a Rory O'Brien hattrick and a
goal from Barry Gowland gave the 6s a welcome win. The
Vets game with Old Tiffs had to be called off as we were
unable to field enough players.
On Sunday, the U9s lost their 100% league record with a 0-3
defeat at Whitton and the U15s also lost at Staines
Town. However there were good wins for the U13s (4-0
over Manorcroft United) and the U16s (3-0 over Westfield) in
their league matches.
11 Dec 2003 - Weekend
Review - the 1s made it 15 goals in 3 games with a
comfortable 5-0 win at bottom side Old Lyonians - all this
without Neil Backers who was on holiday - and had the strips
- nice one Neil. So the first clean sheet of the
season goes to Club Captain, Andy Cook, who took over
between the sticks!!!!! Not surprisingly we have 2
first team reports - one from the skipper and another from
Mark Raven.
The 2s won with a single Tony Edwards goal at Bank of
England - a good result. Sadly the other results were
not so good as all other teams lost.
On Sunday the U9s made it 9 out of 9 with a 3-0 win over Man
U (that's Manorcroft United). The U13s ran a strong
Epsom Eagles side close, but lost 2-4, but they remain well
up the league in their first season in the Premier Division.
