February 2004
News
Summary
29 Feb 2004 - Give a Frog
a Home - the French are coming. This Easter,
Montreuil Bellay are hoping to travel to Carshalton FC with
a party of approximately 35 people. All Carshalton
members are requested to assist in the hosting of our
visitors and offers of accommodation should be sent to John
Thoroughgood, who is co-ordinating these matters at this
time.
29 Feb 2004 - AFA Junior
Cup Final - Carshalton FC will be hosting the final
on 20 March between UCL Academicals and Alexandra
Park. We ask that all members extend a warm welcome to
the players and fans of both sides.
29 Feb 2004 - Weekend
Review - the 1s went further into relegation
trouble with a 2-4 home defeat at the hands of Finchleians
who go second. The 2s lost their AFA Surrey
Intermediate Cup semi final 0-2 against Royal Sun Alliance
1st XI. 3s and 4s had further defeats, while the 5s
and 7s drew. The 6s secured the only win of the day
with a thumping 5-0 win at home, with Dave Robins netting
the first 4 and Trevor Boughton finishing the scoring.
The Vets did well to restrict a strong HAC to a 1-0
scoreline
On Sunday the U9s finished off their league season with a
1-2 reverse against the champions. The U13s lost
against a strong Predators team. U16s drew 1-1 at Meadow Sports.
23 Feb 2004 - Weekend
Review - the 2s threw away a 2 goal lead with 10
minutes to go and were hanging on at the end to a 3-3
scoreline with Neil Collard getting a brace and Michael
Pickett scoring his 6th of the season. The 7s
registered the only win of the day when they defeated Lloyds
7s 3-0 away.
Otherwise it was a miserable set of results with only the 4s
scoring a goal in their 1-5 home defeat by Actonians.
All other sides lost and failed to score. What
happened?!
On Sunday the U9s drew 0-0 in the league, the U13s lost in
the Surrey Cup quarter final and the U16s had a walkover
when Corinthian Casuals were unable to fulfill the
fixture. The U15s had a very eventful Sunday, drawing
5-5 with Oxted!!
18 Feb 2004 - Weekend
Review - apologies for the late update of the web
site this week, but our office staff have been on their half
term break.
The 1s went out of the Surrey Intermediate Cup at the
quarter final stage after a 0-2 reverse at Tongham.
Now they need to concentrate all efforts in getting
themselves off the foot of the SAL Div 2 table.
The 2s game with Old Stationers was postponed as a mark of
respect for Kevin Crowley of Old Stationers 2nd XI, who was
killed the previous week in a road traffic accident.
The Club sends its sympathies to Old Stationers and his
family.
The 3s were spanked 0-5 by high flying Alexandra Park and
the 4s lost narrowly at Old Owens. The 7s had another
good win over Kew 9s.
Performance of the week goes to the 6s who reached the SAL Cup Final
for the 3rd year in a row with a huge 4-3 win over
Polytechnic 6s who are top of the division above. A
remarkable achievement and many congratulations to Dave
Jenvey and his men, who will face Old Finchleians 6s in the
final.
On Sunday, the U13s and U15s lost in the league while the
U16s reached the Surrey Cup semi final after a win on
penalties over AFC Ewell. They now play at Tooting
& Mitcham on 21 March.
9 Feb 2004 - Weekend
Review - the 1s had a very disappointing result
when they threw away a number of chances and 3 points at
home to Old Parmiterians. The 2s collected a useful
point at Old Parms after skipper Tony Edwards was unable to
travel. The 3s had a very good win over Broomfield,
but the 4s remain in relegation spot after their 2-5 home
defeat to West Wickham. The 6s and 7s had comfortable
wins in the league and the Vets overcame a very youthful Old
Tiffinians "veterans" side. Their
performance in the kitchen showed just what they have been
doing since their retirement.
On Sunday the U9s lost 1-2 at champions elect Hampton
Wanderers, the U13s lost the lead of the Premier division to
Tooting & Mitcham, while both the U15s and U16s had good
wins in the league.
9 Feb 2004 - Reg
Swinburne - the Club sends its best wishes and
condolences to the Crouch End Vampires and the family and
friends of Reg Swinburne, who died last week. Reg was
well known as one of the great stalwarts of SAL football and
we shall miss him.
2 Feb 2004 - Weekend
Review - all games were called off on Saturday, and
the only surviving game on Sunday was the U9s emphatic 13-0
win over Hampton Youth. Birthday boy Jordan Cooley
scored 8! The report is on the web site.
