April 2004
News
Summary
27 Apr 2004 - Weekend
Review - the 1s had an excellent 2-1 win up at Old
Finchleians, which takes the team into a comfortable mid
table position. Just the final game at Old
Parmiterians to go. 6 wins, a draw and one defeat in
the run in gives us optimism for next season.
Saturday's game will be the last for Old Parms before they
leave the SAL this season. Carshalton FC wishes them
well on their new venture.
The 7s completed their season with an impressive 1-1 draw at
home to the division winners Polytechnic 8s. Jay Breen
opened the scoring, but Poly fought back to equalise in the
second half.
On Sunday, the U13s completed their season with a 4-2 win at
Hanworth Villa, while the U16s stayed on course for the WSYL
Premier Division title with two 1-0 wins over Ashford Town.
23 Apr 2004 - Rob
Stevenson - would like to thank all of the Club members who sponsored me for the
London Marathon. For those of
you who have run a marathon, you will know what great
inspiration you get from all the support you receive. You
have helped the old man and I raise over £2,700, which is
way above my expectations, and is going to the Royal Marsden
Hospital. For the record I completed the 26.2 miles in
3.58.52. So for someone who has always been decidedly
lacking in anything remotely resembling pace (I am sure many
of you will not dispute that fact), is not too bad.
Good luck for any remaining
games
19 Apr 2004 - Weekend Review -
the 1s fell at home to Old Parkonians and can thank keeper
Neil Backers for keeping the score so close. The 2s
lost both games at relegated Ibis and the Vets finished
their season with a 1-1 draw with Old Grammarians.
Of the senior sides, only the 1s and 7s have fixtures
remaining.
The U15s drew with Woking Town in the league and the U16s
lost in the WSYL Cup final in another close encounter with
Tooting & Mitcham. Hopefully the lads will be able
to pick themselves up and go on to win the league which they
currently lead by 3 points.
14 Apr 2004 - Midweek
Review - the 1s secured their Division 2 status
with a 2-1 win over Old Lyonians. Goals from Mark
Raven and Dave Tilley looked to have made the game safe, but
some sloppy marking at the back post allowed Old Lyonians to
pull a goal back in the second half. Carshalton were
indebted to a wonder save from an Old Lyonians penalty late
in the game by Neil Backers to deny the North Londoners a
point.
The 6s were promoted despite a 1-2 reverse at Old Westminster
Citizens (goal from Dave Robins), by virtue of the fact they
have scored more goals than HSBC 7s. Congratulations
to Dave Jenvey and his men.
14 Apr 2004 - Montreuil
Bellay Visit - a very successful weekend was had by
all. Carshalton did the important business in
retaining the trophy and many friendships were renewed and
made. The Club would like to thank everyone who helped
organise and run the weekend, staffed the bar, ran the
kitchen, provided guests with accommodation, etc
Without your level of commitment it would not be possible to
maintain this event.
14 Apr 2004 - Weekend
Review - the U16s strengthened their position at
the top of the WSYL Premier Division with a 2-0 win over
Uxbridge Colts on Easter Sunday. This coming Sunday
they travel to the Met Police Ground at Imber Court for
their WSYL Cup Final with Tooting & Mitcham. Kick
off is at 10.30am. We
wish them well and urge all Club members to support the
boys.
8 Apr 2004 - Midweek
Review - the 2s game with Ibis which had been
scheduled for last Tuesday has been rescheduled as a double
header on 17th April.
The 5s completed their season with a 4-2 win at Alleyn Old
Boys to move into 3rd position in Division 4 South.
On Wednesday the U9s came back from 2 goals behind to draw
2-2 with The Wolves. Owen Roberts levelled the scores
with a thunderbolt with 5 minutes left.
5 Apr 2004 - Weekend
Review - The 1s had a vitally important 2-1 win over Old Stationers to pull themselves
out of the relegation places for the first time in the season. Youngsters Jon
Phillips and Andrew Taylor got the goals. Other results mean that it will be
very tight, but the lads have given themselves an excellent chance with 4 league
wins in a row. They have 2 crucial 6 pointers in their next matches. On Wed.
14 April they entertain Old Lyonians and follow that with another home game
against Old Parkonians on Sat. 17 April.
The 2s bounced back from a midweek defeat at South Bank CUACO with an impressive
3-1 home win against leaders Old Stationers. Tony Edwards and a brace from
Michael Pickett gave them the points.
The 6s lost narrowly in the SAL Cup final when they went down 1-2 to Old
Finchleians at the Bank of England ground. Matt Huffer opened the scoring
after 5 minutes and they were unlucky not to be 2-0 up at half-time. However,
in the second half the wind came into play and Finchleians used it to their
advantage. The equalizer came from a corner and the winner came when our back
four were caught square and the Finchleians centre forward finished well. There
were opportunities to level the game, but Finchleians held on to win. They
therefore added the SAL Cup to the AFA Cup they won earlier in the season, and
are going for a treble with the league title a possibility. We wish them well
in their quest.
The 7s beat Lloyds TSB Bank 8s 3-2, but there is no news as
yet of scorers.
On Sunday the U13s and U15s both lost, but the U16s had a
comfortable win to keep themselves at the top of the Premier
Division.
