Youth
Section Summary
The 2003/04 season has been
very successful for the Youth Section. A lot of work
has gone into setting up a framework for a successful Youth
Section, not only for this season, but for many seasons to
come. The criteria that the Club sets for defining
success are...
- develop
each player technically and socially
- provide
facilities and an appropriate, friendly environment for
developing youth football
- provide
a feeder system for young blood into the senior sides
- imbue
youngsters with “The Carshalton Spirit”
- introduce
parents to the Club with a view to their future
participation in the running of the Club
There can be no doubt the these aspects have been
achieved together with much success on the field.
However, there is aklways room for improvement and a
number of changes will be made for next season. The
most significant one being that all youth team managers at
Carshalton FC must hold an FA Level 1 Coaching Certificate
as a minimum requirement. This is in line with FA
Charter standards.
In 2003/04 Carshalton FC entered mini soccer for the
first time. This is 7 a side football for kids under
10 years of age, with games lasting 25 minutes each
way. Colin Cooley and Buzz Geddes ran the side this
year and are happy with the progress of all the kids who
made up the squad of 10. Most importantly, the kids
all enjoyed themselves and there was tremendous support
from an excellent group of parents. The team
finished 3rd in Division 1 of the West Surrey Youth League
in their first season, a very commendable effort.
The U13s had a very good season following their
promotion to the Premier Division, finishing an excellent
5th. Concerns had been expressed in certain quarters
whether the squad would be strong enough, but Paul Streat
took up the reigns midway through the season and really brought
the team together. They can be very happy with their
performance this season, which have outdone expectations.
The U15s started the season in turmoil, after the
resignation of the previous manager in the summer, but under Keith
May they managed to recover after Christmas and finished
comfortably in mid table, again in the Premier
Division. A lot of hard lessons have been learned
which will put the team in good stead for next season.
The U16s claimed all the glory on the pitch with a second successive
Premier Division title achieved by finishing the season
undefeated and only conceding 6 goals from 20
matches. In addition to this they were knocked of
the Surrey Cup semi final on penalties and lost the West
Surrey Youth League final 0-1. Quite remarkable
achievements on the pitch. This marks the end of the
side, as full time education, weekend jobs and the call of
semi professional football means it is not possible for
the team to continue. We wish everyone connected
with the team all the best and hope that many of the boys
will begin feeding into the seniro sides from next season.
