2004/05 Season News Item...

September 2004

News Summary

30 Sep 2004 - Match Reports - almost a full set of reports this week.  4s have agreed to only report on competitive fixtures and only the 7s and U13s were missing.  Many thanks to the skippers for organising and the reporters for taking the time to write and submit them.  It makes for a much better web site when there are contributions from many.  Keep it up lads.
29 Sep 2004 - AFA Surrey Senior Cup - the 1s have been rewarded with an away tie at First Division West Wickham on 20th November in the First Round Proper, following their win over Old Grammarians.
29 Sep 2004 - Web Site Updates - the 3s player photos have been added.  2s and 6s to follow.  Any players wishing to have an individual player profile and photo linked to these pages should email Buzz with their text to carshaltonfc@hotmail.com.  Anyone wishing to stitch up someone else should send their text to the same address!
27 Sep 2004 - Weekend Review - the 1s progressed comfortably through to the next round of the AFA Surrey Senior Cup thanks to goals from Kevin MacLeod and Dave Tilley.  The 2s opened their league season with a 2-2 draw, losing a goal in the last 3 minutes.  It was a much depleted side after a number of late cryoffs.  The 3s impressed the senior members of the Club with their performance and attitude in beating South Bank CUACO 3-1 on the 1st team pitch.  The 4s played a good friendly with Tadworth, while the 5s beat the 6s 5-1.  The 7s won away at Old Westminster Citizens and the Vets beat Old Pastovians 3-1.

On Sunday, all teams lost - the U16s at Oakway in the league, the U13s against West Ewell Wanderers in the League Cup and the U10s to last season's champions Ashford Town.

23 Sep 2004 - Surrey Junior Cup - the 1s have been drawn away at Barnslake FC in the Surrey County Junior Cup on Saturday 6th November.
23 Sep 2004 - Joe Simons - speedy recovery to the new 2nd XI keeper who will be out for 6 weeks with damaged tendons in 2 fingers after Saturday's game.  Joe has impressed in his short time with the Club and we wish him well - make sure you come down for a beer or two.
23 Sep 2004 - FA Cup - Carshalton Vets, Derek Cadman, Jim Finn and Ray Challis got their mits on the FA Cup for the first time since they represented Old Etonians in the 1879 final, when they visited Met Police's Imber Court ground last week.

20 Sep 2004 - Weekend Review - the 1s almost threw away a point at EBOG when they went behind in injury time, but they managed to score with the last kick of the game to draw 2-2 thanks to a brace from Jon Phillips.  Paul Pearce went one better with a hattrick for the 2s, but it was not enough to prevent an early exit from the AFA Intermediate Cup, as the 2s lost 3-4, hindered somewhat by 2 "controversial" penalty decisions.

Steve Butler went one better than that.  His 4 goals for the 3s helped them to a fine 5-2 win at Kew.  4s lost at Old Salesians in a friendly, 5s lost a late goal to deprive them of an away win at Bank of England, and the 7s lost 1-5 at Kew.  Vets lost to the same score at Maori, with Jim Finn complaining of lack of players at this time of year.

The 6s had a frustrating day waiting for their opposition to arrive.  Good news is that the 6s will look very smart in their new kit, thanks to skipper James Greenhouse.  Can the 5s please note that as "home" team in this Saturday's "local derby", they need to find a change of kit.

On Sunday the U10s were unfortunate to lose, let alone by a score of 1-4, the U13s got through the Surrey Cup in extra time, and the U16s secured their first point of the season with a 4-4 draw!!  Plenty of goals in the youth section games!

14 Sep 2004 - First Aid Course - the AFA will be running a First Aid course at Carshalton FC on Tuesday 26 October 7 - 10pm.  There are 15 places available.  Anyone interested in gaining the FA's First Aid Certificate and helping the Club maintain it's commitment to the FA Charter should contact Buzz at carshaltonfc@hotmail.com
14 Sep 2004 - School Link - Carshalton FC have set up a formal link with Stanley Park Junior School in Carshalton Beeches.  We need volunteers to help set this up, especially from our FA qualified coaches.  Get in touch with Buzz if you can get involved in this initiative.
13 Sep 2004 - Weekend Review - 4 defensive howlers was the reason according to skipper Andy Cook for the 1s defeat at Merton in the final pre season game.  At Lloyds there was more positive news with the 2s going down to the odd goal in 5 against the Lloyds 1st XI and the 3s winning comfortably, scoring 4 in the process.  The 4s had a tough game at Nottsborough losing 1-7.

On Sunday the 3s, being gluttons for punishment, went over to Merton and won 2-0.  The youth teams had a difficult time in their opening league games.  Only the U13s got any points with their 1-1 draw at  Raynes Park Sports while the U10s and U16s went down to defeats at Staines Albion and Manorcroft United respectively.

8 Sep 2004 - Smoking in Clubhouse - a proposal has been submitted to the Committee about introducing smoking restrictions in the Clubhouse.  As part of our efforts to attract families into the bar after matches, it has been suggested that a total or partial ban on smoking would encourage this and bring us in line policies being introduced in other public places.

The Committee is very keen to know the feelings of the membership on this, so please take the time to vote on the Club Poll to register your opinion.  This can be found at the foot of the right hand column of this page.  Anyone wishing to raise the matter further should email us at carshaltonfc@hotmail.com.  We will review the results of the poll at the next Committee Meeting (4th October).

8 Sep 2004 - Quiz & Curry Night - the Youth Section's fund raising event is on Saturday 16th October - 7.30pm start.  All Club members are welcome, and places can be reserved through the Youth Section Managers - Buzz & Colin Cooley (U10s), Trevor Boughton & John Shaw (U13s) and Andy & Sarah Bitmead (U16s).

Click here for full details.  We would like to thank the Asif Balti House, 4 the Broadway (opposite The Plough), Beddington (020 8688 6712) for their generous sponsorship of this event.  Please support our sponsors.

8 Sep 2004 - Beddington Cricket Club - Carshalton FC sends congratulations to the Beddington CC 1st XI who won promotion to the Surrey Championship Division 1 on Saturday.
7 Sep 2004 - Weekend Review - the 1s had a comfortable 5-0 win over Surrey Intermediate opposition in a friendly, with Jon Phillips kicking off the season with a hattrick.  The 3s came back from 0-3 down, also against Tadworth to run out 5-3 winners.  The 7s drew 4-4 at Lloyds in their friendly and the Vets played 3 x 30 minute games - 0-0, 0-4, 1-0.  As they only had 8 players and we had 15, Jim Finn gave them a different trio of players in each game.  One of our players scored for them.  Make of that what you will.

In the final round of youth section pre season friendlies, the U10s lost at The Wolves, the U13s defeated Hamsey Rangers and the U16s in their first game could still take a number of positives from the game - see their report.
