2004/05 Season News Item...

November 2004

News Summary

30 Nov 2004 - Weekend Review - the 1s were defeated for the first time in the league this season when they lost 0-2 to leaders EBOG.  Another good game to watch with EBOG having more of a cutting edge.  The 2s went mad at South Bank running out 5-1 winners... with centre forward, Michael Pickett in goal!  Good to see them all return to the Clubhouse and have a beer or 2.  All other sides please take note.  The 3s barely held on to their unbeaten record in the league with a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Old Wilsonians.  The 4s lost at Ignatians in Enfield in the AFA Minor Cup - disappointingly being let down by 2 late cry-offs.

The 5s entertained us with a 3-2 win over Southgate County 4s, which was not as close as the scoreline suggests.  The 6s lost in extra time to Alexandra Park in the SAL Cup despite a Dave Robins hattrick.  The Vets gained a customary win at Temple Bar with Tony van Emst scoring his customary goal for the season at Kingswood.

On Sunday the U10s lost 1-4 at Tooting & Mitcham but the game was a lot closer than that suggests.  The U13s had an excellent 2-0 win at Sheen Lions and the U16s drew a blank at Camberley.

30 Nov 2004 - Sponsorship - New Deal Announced
many thanks to Club stalwart Keith Cave for sponsoring the new 1st team strip, that bears his company logo.  It marks a return to the traditional green shirts with white sleeves, black shorts, green & white hooped socks.

Any one interested in sponsoring a team should contact us at carshaltonfc@hotmail.com.  It is vital for the future of the Club that we secure sponsorship deals like this.

30 Nov 2004 - 2s Christmas Bash - the 2s are arranging a Christmas Booze Up on Saturday 18th December.  It is NOT a 2s only event and ALL Club members are invited along.  Details will be made available on this web site as soon as they are passed on.  I'm sure it will be a very quiet affair!!
30 Nov 2004 - Club Membership List - the more observant will have noticed the list of paid Club members that have appeared in the Clubhouse.  This will be updated each week from our records.  If your name does not appear and you have paid, send an email to carshaltonfc@hotmail.com stating how much you paid, when you paid and to whom you paid.

From next week we will be publishing the names of those in the squads who have not paid and therefore will no longer be considered for selection.

25 Nov 2004 - Letter from Alan Waight -    Having gone to West Wickham last Saturday to watch our 1st XI and stayed for a while being sociable after the match (in which by the way we were always going to come second to a very fit and young Wickham side), I returned to our Club at approx 6pm to find to my surprise and disappointment only a handful of people in the Bar. The subject of support came up with Rod and one or two other stalwarts and, as Rod so rightly pointed out, we stand or fall financially by the revenue across the Bar.  It seems to me that at least the 1st XI, having left Wickham before I did, could at least have made the effort to come back!

Perhaps the players shouldn't complain too much if the Match Fees/Subs have to be increased next Season. If it wasn't for the Old Gits in the corner things would be even worse. Come on lads all Teams should make the effort to support our Club!!          .....An Old Git!!

17 Nov 2004 - November's Committee Meeting - the following points are highlighted by your Committee for all Club members' attention...

Match Fees are £85 for home games and £65 for away games per team.  From the home match fee, £22 is payable to the referee, £20 for teas and the remaining £43 is paid to the Club. For away games, the full £65 is paid to the Club.  How these figures are collected is down to the individual skippers of each team, so be aware that there may be discrepancies in what is charge to individuals in different teams, but the final figures handed to the Club are always the same.

Please note that all Disciplinary Fines carry a Club admin fee, which means that bookings are £10 and this must be paid to your skipper on the day of the offence.  Should the booking not "come through", you will be reimbursed.

Goalposts and nets are NEVER to be left up overnight.

17 Nov 2004 - Match Reports - another very impressive week with reports from the 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 6s, 2 backdated reports from the 7s, a report from the vets, U10s and U13s - and all by Tuesday.  I'll let Andy and the 5s off, as they didn't have a game, but maybe a report on the shopping trip with the missus could be submitted.

Thanks to all contributers.

14 Nov 2004 - Weekend Review - the 1s had little difficulty seeing off a battling Crouch End Vampires side in the first round of the AFA Senior Cup with goals from Jon Phillips, Adam Taylor and a Keith Cave penalty.  Crouch End's "goal" was at least a foot from crossing the line - oh for linesmen / assistant referees in senior games - or the appointed referee making the game!

The 2s also progressed in the AFA Surrey Intermediate Cup with a very comfortable 3-0 win in Kent (!) over Chislehurst Sports - goals from Shane Bowes, Paul Pearce and a spectacular own goal sealed their place in round 2.  Ross Sinclair saved a penalty with his legs - the ball bounced out for a throw-in on the full.

The 3s had a nightmare start, missing 4 main players and going a goal down in the first minute.  However they recovered thanks to Jack Goodman's composed hattrick and a clincher from Richard Matthews to put out Merton 4-2 and go through to round 1 of the SAL Cup, where they will face West Wickham at home on 4 December.  The 4s earned a good point at HSBC, but Captain Jenvey was disappointed not to have secured all 3.

The 5s game with Old Salesians was postponed, while the 6s and 7s tasted defeat to Alleyn Old Boys (in the league) and Crouch End Vampires (in the SAL Cup) respectively.  The Vets went down 2-4 at Chelsea Old Players.

On Sunday, the U10s lost narrowly to high flying Molesey Juniors, the U13s hung on to beat AC Fulham 3-2 after being 3-0 up at halftime and the U16s did themselves proud, losing 3-4 against opposition who had beaten them 1-15 only 4 weeks previously.
