December 2004

News Summary

19 Dec 2004 - Seasons Greeting - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our members and friends of the Club from The Committee.
19 Dec 2004 - Fixtures for 8 January 2005 - as you can see from the fixtures on the right, we have 6 home games scheduled for the 8th January.  This is due to the 1s and 2s being drawn at home in their cups.  As a consequence of this, Jez is requesting the SAL review our league fixtures on the day and he is also in negotiations with the Vets' skipper Jim Finn.  We'll update the web site as soon as the fixtures are finalised.
19 Dec 2004 - Weekend Review - goals, goals, goals at Beddington Park this Saturday - 30 in 4 games.  The 1s did enough to win comfortably against HSBC, but in the end struggled to a 5-4 win with a 25 yard winner from Keith Cave.  The 2s remain second after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Old Salesians, where they managed to overcome a 2 goal deficit in the last 8 minutes.  The 3s crashed 2-3 for the second week, this time at home to Kew Association.  The 4s go top of their division after a fine 3-1 win at Alleyn Old Boys.  The 5s crashed 1-5 at home to Kew, while the 6s had a hard earned 1-1 draw at Old Wilsonians.  The 7s lost 4-6 at home to Lloyds TSB Bank

On Sunday, the U10s had a day to forget with a very disappointing performance in a friendly with Nutfield Youth.

15 Dec 2004 - Surrey Junior Cup -  the 1s have a home tie against Chessington Kings Centre of the Kingston & District League on 8 Jan. in the fourth round of the Surrey Junior Cup.  The winner of that tie will face either Refectory Sports or Heathfield Sports on 5 Feb.
14 Dec 2004 - Jim Finn's Veterans Address -  well done to all who played on Saturday. Despite losing 4-1 to a strong Malden Vets team, we did play with a good attitude and the game was enjoyable. Our numbers for selection seem to be improving, so have a good Christmas and keep fit. Next game is 8th Jan at home to Economicals

12 Dec 2004 - Weekend Review - the 1s won through to the last 16 of the Surrey Junior Cup despite finding themselves 1-3 down to Continental Stars in the first half.  This match saw the welcome return of keeper Joe Simons who was standing in for the injured Neil Backers.

Despite conceding an early goal, the 2s turned on the style to hit back with three fine first half goals against previously unbeaten Weirside Rangers.  The only surprise was that the fourth didn't come until the last minute.  The 3s suffered their first league defeat with a very suprising reverse at the hands of bottom of the table Merton.  In their third tight game of the season it was the visitors who just edged it.  The 4s' great away victory at South Bank CUACO was described by skipper Dave Jenvey as "brave and battling and fully deserved".

The 5s bounced back from last week's defeat to the 6s by progressing through to the last 16 of the AFA Senior Novets by seeing off Old Salesians 3-1.  The 6s had an excellent result putting 5 past HSBC, with Rob Morley bagging 4 himself.  The Club's top scorer Adam Lemon's 13th of the season was not enough for the 7s, who lost 1-3 at Merton.  The Vets lost 1-4 to a very strong Malden Vets side in a hastily rearranged fixture.

On Sunday, the U10s were involved in another tight game with title chasing Epsom Eagles and a goal in the last 5 minutes settled the tie for the visitors.  The U13s crashed 1-5 at Hampton Youth, while the U16s let a 2-1 lead slip and lost 2-3 at home to Manorcroft United.

09 Dec 2004 - Cup Draw - the 3s have been drawn away to Polytechnic in the quarter finals of the SAL Cup on Sat. 22 Jan.  This will be a chance to avenge the AFA Junior Cup 3-4 reverse earlier in the season.
08 Dec 2004 - Discipline - unfortunately we have to report that we have accumulated 16 discipline points so far this season, which is very worrying.  The consequences of reaching Stage 1, 2 or 3 of the AFA Discipline code are very serious, involving heavy Club fines, appearances of Committee members before the AFA and ultimately exclusion from AFA Cup competitions next season.  This would be wholly unacceptable to us given the hard work in getting the FA Charter Standard.  Therefore the Committee has introduced the following changes with immediate effect...

Any booking or sending off for dissent carries an additional £5 admin surcharge, meaning bookings for dissent are £15.  There is also an immediate Club suspension of 2 weeks.

Anyone found to have given a false name to a referee will be suspended by the Club for 4 match weekends and asked to attend the next Committee meeting together with his skipper.  The Committee's ultimate measure is to expel players who have a discipline problem, for the sake of the rest of the Club.  We will take this action if necessary.

08 Dec 2004 - Match Fees - here is how the Match Fees are made up.  When away, each team collects £65 and this goes straight to the Club coffers (via Peter Stevenson or Graham Radford).  At home games, each team collects £85, of which £22 is payable to the referee, £20 payable to Pam Woolvin, Peter Stevenson or Graham Radford for teas and the rest (£43) is paid straight to Club coffers (via Peter Stevenson or Graham Radford).

How this Match fee is collected within the team is the responsibility of the skipper - not the Committee.  The Committee defines how much is levied for Match Fees and skippers determine who pays how much in each team.

07 Dec 2004 - Alan Waight Writes... -  not wishing to claim credit for my previous letter concerning attendance after Saturday matches, but last week après match saw one hell of an improvement.  In fact I felt a bit guilty when leaving after 6pm to leave such a throng of people, both players and supporters in the bar - and that was without the presence of His Highness President Philpott.  Dennis is recovering from knee surgery and wishes to thank all those people who visited him in Epsom Hospital.  Some less kindly souls have suggested that it was because of his absence that so many other people stayed on later than usual!  I couldn't possibly comment on that,  except to say that Dennis is expected at Beddington Park next week, but I unfortunately will not.  Read what you will into that... Anyway well done everyone for the attendance on Sat.  The place was really buzzing despite the 1s defeat.

04 Dec 2004 - Drill Tops - all drill tops that were ordered have been sold, so we suspect that a few others might be wanted.  If there is sufficient demand, we will order some more.  They retail at £20 each - cash on collection.  Contact Buzz at carshaltonfc@hotmail.com to reserve one.
4 Dec 2004 - Weekend Review - the 1s lost out on penalties in the AFA Senior Cup after a 2-2 draw.  Simon Clare opened the scoring on half time, but Finchleians equalised to bring extra time.  A Mark Raven header put Cars back in front in the first period of extra time, but Finchleians came back again.

The 2s had an astonishing result at leaders HSBC putting 6 past them.  11 goals in 2 games has put them back on top of the division.  The 3s got back to winning ways by putting out division 1 West Wickham in the SAL Cup, helped in no small measure by a Jack Mesure hattrick.

The 4s lost at Old Wilsonians.  At Beddington Park, the 6s gained revenge for their early season 1-5 defeat to the Carshalton 5s when they won thanks to a Steve Greenslade goal.  the match was noteable for an act of sportsmanship by Dave Paterson.  When a handball was awarded against the 6s in controversial circumstances, the 5s tried to get the decision reversed, but the referee had made his decision.  Dave deliberately rolled the penalty well wide (or that was his story in the bar anyway).  Nice one Dave.

The 7s drew 2-2 with Old Westminster Citz, and it was nice to see Paul Peagham back at Beddington Park.  Rick Morris's brace puts him one goal behind leading Club scorer Adam Lemon on 11 goals.  The Vets won comfortably 5-2 at Economicals.

On Sunday, the U10s recorded their third league victory with a 5-1 triumph at home to bottom of the league Staines Albion.  The U13s pulled back a late equaliser at home to Feltham Wanderers, while the U16s were overpowered in the WSYL Invitational Cup.

1 Dec 2004 - Youth Section Parents - all youth section parents are asked to assist their managers in putting up and collecting the goals and corner flags, running the line (a WSYL requirement), and helping in the kitchen as required.  The U10s and U13s have a fantastically supportive set of parents, but the U16s need your help.  Your managers give up their time to give your boys a game of football, so please help when asked - or better still, volunteer.
