Boxing Day Match Report

Boxing Day saw the annual football match between Carshalton Football Club and Beddington Cricket Club take place on a frosty pitch littered with hangovers and with many of the Carshalton players sporting their Christmas gifts. Cookie had his new trainers, Wiggy had his new jacket and Stewart Jeffreys had his new teeth.

The match began with those of us on the sidelines wondering who was meant to be the football club, us or them.  After twenty minutes BCC took the lead after a strange back pass from Wiggy left our keeper stranded.  A Tony Edwards strike levelled the scores and honours were even at half time.

The second half saw BCC take the lead yet again.  Dave Paterson and Bill Tilley could only manage to chase the goalbound ball towards the line and kick it against each other.  The end result being that the ball rebounding off Bill's head into the goal and Dave Paterson got entangled in the net, looking like an extra in a Save the Whale documentary.

With only twenty minutes left there was no option but to bring on a sub, and what a masterful stroke it proved to be.  With his first touch he sent JP through to hit a low drive past the keeper. 2-2.  Then seconds later the keeper and Matt Dudley got entangled on the edge of the area only to see the ball run loose and a 30 yard strike in to the roof of the net from yours truly put Carshalton 3-2 up.  Tony Edwards made it 4-2 with a customary back pass strike and a consolation goal from BCC ended the game with a final score of 4-3 to Carshalton.

The BCC keeper had great game along with their midfield maestro (just been released from Fulham) keeping the Cars midfield busy all game.

Dave Patterson is recovering well in Newhaven Harbour and will be released back to the ocean very shortly.
