30 Nov 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"We managed to wrong a few rights"

29 Nov 2005 - Weekend Review   - the 1s gained a valuable point at Polytechnic with a gritty performance in the league.  Veteran striker Matt Wigham got the important goal.  The 2s produced something of a shock, defeating their hosts Enfield Old Grammarians 4-1 to book a place in the quarter-finals of the AFA Intermediate Cup with goals from Paul Pearce, Neal Collard, Shane Bowes and Adam Taylor.  They have been rewarded with a trip to Solihull in February to face Wake Green in the quarter final!!

The 3s gained only their second win on their travels this season as Jack Goodman's goal gave Tony Knott's side a 1-0 win at Bank of England.  The 4s continued their climb up the table by defeating Civil Service, and are now unbeaten in 5 games - well done to skipper Andy Walter and his boys for the turnaround in fortunes.

Unfortunately the 5s' opponents withdrew from the AFA Cup and they now host Old Parmiterians on 10 December in the last 16.  The 6s were defeated for the first time in the league when a pacy Lloyds TSB 4s won 2-0 at Beddington Park.  In the SAL Junior Novets Cup, the 7s lost to Winchmore Hill 7s in extra time for the second week in a row and guess who the 8s opponents are in the next round, having seen off Norsemen 8s on Saturday - that's right it's Winchmore Hill 7s!  This time we travel to North London.  Well done to the Norsemen lads who stayed for a few beers despite the result and the long journey home.

The Vets lost 1-5 to Temple Bar.  Not too bad, given that they only travelled with 1 defender.

On Sunday there were defeats for the U8s and U11s, while the U14 climbed to second in the table with a 6-1 win at Links FC.  No news of the U10s as yet.

29 Nov 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"We are three games without defeat is another way of looking at it. But if we are honest we have taken two points from nine"

28 Nov 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"He'll also be very dangerous from set-pieces. That means he'll be a threat from free-kicks and corners in the final third of the field."

27 Nov 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"Kanu, a guy with a heart as big as he is"

26 Nov 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"Danny Tiatto is not going to make a mistake on purpose"

25 Nov 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"Football's always easier when you've got the ball"

24 Nov 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"Young Gareth Barry - he's young"

23 Nov 2005 - Kevin's Words of Wisdom
We've decided that we have so many Kevin Keegan quotes, that we can't do them all in one week, so we'll do them as an advent calendar each day throughout the Christmas period.  But Kevin being Kevin has so many that we can start the calendar now, and still have enough quotes for every day up to Christmas.  And to think you lot were all clamouring for this man to lead your national side a while back...

"I'll never play at Wembley again, unless I play at Wembley again"

"You get bunches of players like you do bananas, though that is a bad comparison."

"Not many teams will come to Arsenal and get anything, home or away"

"Shaun Wright-Phillips has got a big heart. It's as big as him, which isn't very big, but it's bigger"

22 Nov 2005 - New Years' Match - the traditional New Year football match with Beddington Cricket Club will take place at Beddington Park on Monday 2 January with a 11am kick off.  Matt Wigham is organising the Carshalton FC Select team, so if you are available for selection, let Matt know as early as possible.

Spectators are of course welcome and the bar will be open.

20 Nov 2005 - Weekend Review   - the 1s bounced back from the disappointment of going out of the AFA Senior Cup last week by booking their place in the quarter finals of the AFA Surrey / Kent Senior Cup with a thrilling 4-3 extra time win over Bank of England.  Jonny Phillips' match winner was an cracking way to decide the tie.  The 3s lost again on their travels, this time at Old Stationers and it would seem the difference between their home and away form tells a story.

Elsewhere, the 4s moved out of the relegation zone for the first time in the season with an encouraging 2-1 win at Polytechnic 5s - well done Wol and the boys.  The 5s maintained their promotion challenge with a 2-0 win at Old Salesians 4s, while the 6s progressed comfortably through to the quarter finals of the SAL Cup at the expense of Civil Service.  They face a trip to Old Owens on 7 January.

In the AFA Junior Novets Cup, the 8s won through in a 12 goal thriller and will face either Ealing Association 1s (I kid you not) or Old Meadonians 10s!  The 7s lost out in extra time to Winchmore Hill 7s - they have a chance for revenge next week when they play the same side at home again in the SAL Cup!  The Vets lost 0-3 at Blackheath.

On Sunday the frost was so bad that the U14s pitch was unplayable but the other home games went ahead.  The U8s and U11s lost, while the U10s went on a bit of a goal rampage!  Nice to see so many supporters out in force.

17 Nov 2005 - Training  - next week's training is taking place on Thursday 24 November and not on the Tuesday.  This week there were  7 from the senior squad, 1 from the 4s, 6 from the 5s, 1 from 7s, 1 from 8s and 1 "new boy".  Can skippers please aim to get as may players from their squad down to training each week as possible - especially Tony Knott and James Greenhouse who had no representation this week.  Sessions start at 7.30pm.
17 Nov 2005 - Goalposts  - a gentle reminder from the Committee to all players... all nets on pitches 1, 2, 3 must be secured using the velcro ties that have been supplied AND NEVER TAPE.  Pitch 1 goalposts are to be taken from the bracket on the clubhouse wall and returned there after the game.
14 Nov 2005 - Katie Berry  -  encouraging message received from 5s skipper Dave Jenvey...

"Danny Berry and his wife have reported that his daughter Katie is now off the drugs plus the last drain on her lungs has been removed and she has had her first drink of milk!"

14 Nov 2005 - Weekend Review  - the 1s exited the AFA Senior Cup is disappointing style at Old Suttonians after extra time.  The long list of absentees meant that Tony Edwards was called up from the 6s as a one off, after their game was cancelled.  The very tight game looked to be heading to penalties when Suttonians scored late in the second period.

Also exiting the cup, this time the SAL Junior Cup, were the 3s in an upset at Broomfield.  The 2s climbed to the top of Division 2 following a very comfortable win at home against Old Stationers with goals from Paul Pearce (2) and a Stuart Jeffreys penalty.  The 6s' opponents in their AFA Intermediate Novets Cup tie (Old Edmontonians) withdrew, so they now face Lloyds TSB away on 10 December.

The 7s continued their fine run with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Old Westminster Citizens 6s, with Rick Morris and Jon Smith grabbing a brace each.  The 8s lost narrowly in a 7 goal thriller with skipper Dave Thoroughgood bemoaning his younger players' unwillingness to learn.  The Vets returned from the Chelsea Pensioners with a 3-0 win - is this the only team with a higher average age then ours?

The 5s SAL Cup game at Salesians was abandoned and is the subject of an SAL inquiry.

On Sunday the Club enjoyed considerable success with the U10s moving into second place with a 2-0 win at Oxshott Royals, the U11s easing into the next round of the league cup and the U14s moving up to second place with a 5-2 win at Claygate Royals.

10 Nov 2005 - Danny Berry  -  Message received from 5s skipper Dave Jenvey...

"Danny's wife gave birth on Saturday night ten weeks prematurely to a little girl Katie, weighing 4 lbs 5 oz. All of the 5th Team are praying that all goes well and Katie grows stronger everyday. We are sure that if she shows her Dad's attitude on the pitch, she won't go far wrong. Fingers crossed mate. Good luck Danny. Keep us updated.

Puts things into perspective somewhat."

I'm sure all Club members echo Dave's sentiments.

8 Nov 2005 - Weekend Preview - the 1s travel to Northey Avenue in Cheam for their AFA Senior Cup tie with Old Suttonians of the Amateur Football Combination.  Support is of course most welcome.

Also on their travels are the 3s in their SAL Junior cup tie at Broomfield, the 5s in league action with Old Salesians, the 6s in the AFA Intermediate Novets cup at Old Edmontonians and the Vets who travel to Chelsea Old Pensioners.

At home this week are the 2s, 7s and 8s - all in league action

On Sunday, the U8 and U11s are at home, with the U11s in League Cup action, while the U10s and U14s travel to Oxshott and Claygate respectively in the league.

Good luck to all side this coming weekend.

8 Nov 2005 - Weekend Review - the 1s battered South Bank but somehow came back from Dulwich pointless.  Answers on a postcard to Matt Wigham.  There were single goal defeats for the 3s and 8s as well.

Thankfully the rest of the Club sides were more successful.  An astonishing start to their AFA Cup tie at Old Parkonians saw the 2s race into a 3-1 lead after just ten minutes! However, the home side got back on level terms before two second half goals finally sealed Cars' progress.  They now face a trip to north London on 26 November to face Enfield Old Grammarians in the next round.  At Beddington Park, the 4s served up an exciting cup tie against a boisterous Old Westminster Citizens side.  2-2 after 90 minutes and extra time, so the game went to penalties.  Ian "Man Mountain" Castle (pictured puffing on a fag before the start of the penalty shootout) produced  a save from the first penalty to give Cars an early advantage.  When Dave Paterson held his nerve to make it 3-2 the murmur from the balcony was that our name must be on the cup.  Tony Edwards converted his penalty in what was effectively sudden death, and Old Westminster Citz missed the target with their fifth to send the 4s through to an away tie at Nottsborough on 10 December.

The 5s game with Lloyds TSB was called off when Lloyds were unable to raise a team.  The 6s game at Salesians fell victim to a waterlogged pitch in Ewell.  The 7s played out a drab 9-5 win over West Wickham!!!! with Rick Morris getting a hattrick (didn't see the traditional jug being bought afterwards, Rick).  Finally the Vets won 1-0 in a close game with Polytechnic.

On Sunday the U8s came off second best against Kingstonian Youth.  The U10s beat the same opposition 4-0 in the league, while there was also success for both the U11s and U14s in the Surrey Cup.  The U11s produced an excellent performance to see off Whyteleafe 9-3 to secure an away tie at Tandridge League leaders Hamsey Rangers on 27 November.  The U14s needed penalties to defeat Orpington Rovers and have been rewarded with a game at Stoneleigh Athletic on 4 December.
