23 Dec 2005 - Festive Greetings - Merry Christmas to all Club members, former members, and other AFA Clubs.  The Committee wishes you health and happiness for 2006.

Remember there are 2 events on during the festive season at the Club.  Firstly there is the traditional gathering and Club Match on Boxing Day from 11am and then the New Years game with Beddington Cricket Club which takes place on Monday 2 January at 11am.   The bar will be open and we hope to see as many Club members there are possible.  Have a great break everyone.

20 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom

20 Dec 2005 - Youth Cup Updates - the U10s play their WSYL Invitation Cup Semi Final against Whitton Wanderers on Sunday 12 January at the NPL Sports Ground, Queens Road, Teddington, TW11 0LW.  Kick off is at 12.30pm.

The U11s play Epsom Eagles in the League Cup Semi Final at Imber Court Sports Ground, Molesey, KT8 0BT on 5 February with a 2pm kick off.

The U14s play at Croydon Athletic on 22 January in the last 16 of the Surrey County Cup.

19 Dec 2005 - Weekend Review - the 1s finished off 2005 in optimistic mood with a 2-0 home win over Bank of England to give us much needed league points.  The 2s suffered a rare league reverse after a disappointing second half display saw them gift all three points to their hosts BB Eagles.

Following the problems with the 3s the previous week, a much changed side (basically the 5s) travelled to Old Latymerians and won convincingly 8-3 helped by a hattrick from Mark Raven and a couple from Alex Kiszczuk.  Thanks to all players and Club officials who made this possible, and especially to those 3s player who had actually paid their joining fees but were not involved this week.  Tough decisions had to be made for the good of the Club as a whole, and we will be working hard as a Committee to sort out the running of the 3s in the New Year.

The 4s continued their excellent recovery with another 3 points in the league to move themselves up to 6th in the table - a remarkable turnaround from the start of the season.  Well done to Andy and his boys.

The 6s shared 8 goals in an extraordinary game with BB Eagles, coming back from 1-3 down.  The 7s had an excellent win at Old Wilsonians, while the 8s lost disappointingly 3-5 to South Bank CUACO, despite top goal scorer Andy Bitmead adding a couple to bring his tally so far to 19 for the season.

On Sunday, all youth games were called off due to frozen pitches.

19 Dec 2005 - 3s v Crouch End Vampires - following an interview on Wed. 14 December with 3s skipper Tony Knott regarding the reasons for the non appearance of the 3s for their fixture at Crouch End Vampires on 10 December, the Committee has made the following decisions...

The following players have been removed from the 3s squad for non payment of joining fee - Scott Ruthen, James Hall and Alex Smith.  One other player has been removed, as he has not been available for selection.  The outstanding balance for the remaining players who had part paid their joining fees was paid by Tony Knott.  Tony will work with the Team Secretary to build a new 3s squad in time for their first game of 2006 on 7 January.  The Committee will also be given evidence of changes being made to the running of the team in order to prevent a repeat of this embarrassing episode for the Club.

Dave Jenvey and his 5s team will be asked to fulfill the next 3s fixture - Old Latymerians away on Sat 17 Dec. in order to be sure that we fulfill this fixture.

Letters will be written to Crouch End Vampires and the SAL to inform them of our actions.  We will reimburse Crouch End Vampires for the unused pitch, referee's fee and uneaten teas.  We can also expect an SAL fine.

AN IMPORTANT LESSON TO LEARN FROM THIS.  ANY PLAYER UNAVAILABLE FOR A GAME MUST CONTACT HIS SKIPPER AS EARLY IN THE WEEK AS POSSIBLE.  On this occasion, of 13 players allegedly available on the Tuesday, only 7 turned  up for the meet.

19 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"It's like a toaster, the ref's shirt pocket. Every time there's a tackle, up pops a yellow card."

18 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"You can't do better than go away from home and get a draw..."

17 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"There are two schools of thought on the way the rest of this half is going to develop; everybody's got their own opinion..."

16 Dec 2005 - Boxing Day - we will be opening the clubhouse bar for the traditional Boxing Day game on Monday 26 December (funnily enough).  Kick off will be 11am.  Speak to your skipper if you wish to play in the Inter Club game.  We hope as many members as possible will come down and support this event.
16 Dec 2005 - Payment of Fines - All disciplinary fines are to be paid to Trevor Boughton directly if possible, but failing that to Graham Radford or Peter Stevenson, and failing that, to any committee member, and failing that, to the skipper of the side. Fines must be paid on the day of the offence.  Fines can vary depending on the offence, but assume bookings are £12.
16 Dec 2005 - French Trip Update - it has been decided by the Committee that we will not be organising a tour to Montreuil-Bellay in May 2006.  There has been insufficient interest from within the membership, so we have made this decision early to avoid and financial losses.
16 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"The 33 or 34-year-olds will be 36 or 37 by the time the next World Cup comes around, if they're not careful."

15 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"Luis Figo is totally different to David Beckham, and vice versa"

14 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"In some ways, cramp is worse than having a broken leg."

13 Dec 2005 - Weekend Review - the 1s game at Old Finchleians was postponed.  The 2s stay top of Division 2 after sharing six goals with Alleyn Old Boys in a fabulous end-to-end thriller at Beddington Park, which was warmly appreciated by the Club faithful massed on the pavilion balcony. The home goals were scored by Alex Corner and an in-form Adam Taylor who bagged himself a second-half brace.

There will be a statement by the Club later this week following the 3s non appearance for their fixture at Crouch End Vampires.

The 4s had a tremendous 6-2 win over Division 1 Nottsborough in the SAL Cup.  They will travel to Merton in the quarter finals on 28 January.  Well done to Andy Walter and his boys.  The 5s were overpowered by their Old Parmiterians counterparts in the AFA Senior Novets Cup.  The 6s fared much better and their 3-2 win at Lloyds TSB gives them a quarter final at Winchmore Hill on 4 Feb.  well done to James Greenhouse and his team.  The 7s game with BB Eagles was called off early in the week as the opposition could not raise a team.  The Vets lost 3-6 in an entertaining, last minute change of fixture with Malden Vets.

Pride of place for this week goes to the 8s for their astonishing win over Ealing Association 1s (who had won 10-1 in the previous round) in the AFA Junior Novets Cup.  After the game finished 2-2 after extra time, strikes from Martin Shew, Dave Thoroughgood, Rob Moye and Tom Thoroughgood were enough for a 4-2 penalty shootout win.  And their reward...? A trip to face Gladstone Rangers FIRST TEAM!!! on 7 Jan.

On Sunday the U8s won the first half 2-0 but lost the second 0-5.  The U10s marched on in the league with a 4-1 win at Kingstonian Youth.  The U11s could not make their pressure tell and lost 1-3 at home to Oxshott Royals.  The U14s had another good win on their travels, this time 4-2 at Sinjun Colts.

13 Dec 2005 - 4s Xmas Road Trip - message received from Andy Walter - "The 4s are going for a Christmas drink this Saturday (17 December).  We'll start in the clubhouse, then its either Croydon or Clapham.  Please let everyone know from all of the sides that they are all welcome.  However if Stuart Jeffreys would like to attend, it might be an idea for him to bring along his spare set of teeth, as we don't want a repeat performance of last year's debacle where the barmaid had to search through all the used glasses to find his two front teeth."
13 Dec 2005 - Dave Paterson - rather surprisingly, Mr Paterson failed to turn up last Saturday due to a rather heavy night at a Xmas works party.  This co-oncided with the team's best result of the season!  He's been extremely apologetic to his skipper and obviously feels very guilty - and quite rightly.  Please note that he will be on tea duty by himself this week.  His skipper Andy will get the lads to give him a hand later on, but we're sure he can manage a few tea towels worth initially.
13 Dec 2005 - Katie Berry - Dave Jenvey has received a phone call from Danny Berry saying that his baby daughter Katie came home from hospital last Wednesday.  Both Danny and his wife Helen are delighted as you imagine to have their little girl at home all fit and well.  Great news.

9 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom

8 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"I'm not disappointed - just disappointed."

7 Dec 2005 - Kevin Keegan's Words of Wisdom
"The game has gone rather scrappy as both sides realise they could win this match or lose it."

7 Dec 2005 - Saturday Preview  - it is cup weekend for many of Carshalton's teams.  The 4s travel to Nottsborough in the SAL Cup in the last 16.  The 5s host Old Parmiterians in the last 16 of the AFA Senior Novets Cup.  The 6s travel to Lloyds TSB 6s in the last 16 of the AFA Intermediate Novets Cup.  The 8s host Ealing Association 1st team (yes, you read that correctly, our 8s are playing a first team in the cup!!!) in the last 32 of the AFA Junior Novets Cup.

In the SAL there are important games as the 1s travel to bottom of the table Old Finchleians, the 2s play in a top of the table clash with Alleyn Old Boys, the 3s travel to Crouch End Vampires and the 7s host BB Eagles.  Please note this game may be switched to an away game if the proposed 12 noon kick off is not acceptable to our opponents.

The Vets have a rare pre Christmas home fixture when they take on Old Tiffinians.

6 Dec 2005 - Weekend Review   - the 1s were well beaten at H.S.B.C. with things going downhill as soon as Jon Phillips injured himself retrieving a ball before the game!

At Beddington Park, the 2s went top of Division 2 by defeating H.S.B.C. 4-1.  the 3s and 5s recorded big league wins, and the 8s also had an impressive win at Old Actonians.  However there were defeats for the 4s, 6s and 7s - all teams who have been doing well in recent weeks.  No game for the Vets this week.

On Sunday the U8s lost and U10s drew in the league, while the U11s and U14s progressed in the League Cup and Surrey Cups respectively.  The U11s face Epsom Eagles in the semi final while the U14s play Croydon Athletic in the last 16.
