2005/06 Season News Item...

February 2006

News Summary

28 Feb 2006 - Vets Match Report - we don't normally single out match reports, but Norm's Vets report for the H.A.C. game looks to be in pole position for the CFC Literary Prize, given last year to the only 1s player able to string a coherent sentence in the bar after 6pm.  An excellent effort Norm.
28 Feb 2006 - Web Site Guest Book  - please note that the Guestbook facility on the web site is designed for people to register their visit to the web site.  It is not for banter between club members, offensive comments about other clubs, debating club policies, etc.  These entries will be deleted.

Would the 3s player who wrote an entry today criticising the Club for the way his team has been treated please email the club at carshaltonfc@hotmail.com and we will gladly respond to your accusations.  This will give you the opportunity to identify yourself rather than making anonymous comments.
20 Feb 2006 - Club Dinner  - the date of the Club Dinner has been moved to Friday 31 March.  Speak with Matt Wigham and Dave Paterson to reserve a ticket.  Always a full house, so book early to avoid disappointment.
20 Feb 2006 - Weekend Review  - the 1s continued their recent good run with a 4-0 home win over South Bank CUACO that was not as routine as the scoreline suggests.  A Johnny Phillips hattrick brings them right into the promotion race.

The 2s' promotion hopes are probably over for another season after they suffered a cruel defeat at second in the table HSBC - the hosts winner in a five-goal thriller arriving in the 89th minute.

The 5s and 6s both scored crucial wins in their promotion chases, while the 8s secured a draw with almost the last kick of the game, sharing an incredible 10 goals.  The 3s and Vets games were called off due to the weather.

On Sunday the U8s lost by the odd goal in 3, while there were thumping wins for the U10s, U11s and U14s (who are now top of their league).
20 Feb 2006 - Golf Challenge  - the inaugural Golf Challenge between Carshalton FC and Beddington CC will be held at Farleigh Court Golf Club on Sunday 2 April with a 12 noon start.  Exact format is to be agreed, but is proposed as a 12 v 12 Ryder Cup style extravaganza.  Club members interested in taking part should speak with Mark Raven or mail the Club at carshaltonfc@hotmail.com.  More details to follow.
16 Feb 2006 - U11s Fund Raising  - well done to everyone who contributed to the U11s golf day last week which raised £500 towards the costs of the U11s end of season tour.  Quite an effort from everyone.
14 Feb 2006 - Weekend Review - solid results for both the 1s and 2s away at top of the table opposition.  The Matt Wigham scored with 10 to go at table toppers Alleyn Old Boys to grab a point, and Rob Morley had a chance latre on to snatch all 3, but failed to keep his effort under the bar.  The 2s kept alive their faint hopes of snatching a promotion spot with a battling display at second placed Old Salesians - a powerful second half Alex Corner header earning a deserved share of the spoils.

The 3s lost ground on the leaders with a disappointing home defeat against lowly Crouch End Vampires, but there was better news lower down the Club.  The 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s and 8s all got 3 points to improve their chances of promotion.  The Vets drew 1-1 with Temple Bar.

The race for the Golden Boot is hotting up with "Euro Boy" Justin Said of the 6s scoring a hattrick to reach 20 and catch up another goal on long time leader Andy Bitmead, whose brace for the 8s moved him up to 23.
14 Feb 2006 - Cup Final - the final of the AFA Surrey / Kent Senior Cup is scheduled to be played at Beddington Park on 25 March.
14 Feb 2006 - Did you see... Carshalton Vet Mike Briggs guest appearance as social commentator on Sunday's Match of the Day 2, fielding the "What was your first game you went to?" question from the BBC reporter.  If only he could be that coherent and composed on the pitch on a Saturday.
14 Feb 2006 - Club Stag Night  - well done to all who attended and especially to those who organised the Club's Stag Do on Friday.  Excellent entertainment and plenty of funds raised for the Club.  Another triumph for the Club's social secretary Dave Paterson.
7 Feb 2006 - U11s League Cup Final  - the West Surrey Youth League have proposed that the U11s League Cup Final between Carshalton FC and Tooting & Mitcham will be played on Sunday 23 April at the Met Police Ground at Imber Court, Molesey.  Once this is confirmed we'll be notified of the kick off time.
6 Feb 2006 - Cup Draws  - the 2s have been drawn at home to Civil Service on 25 February in the semi final of the AFA Intermediate Cup.  The other semi final is between Mill Hill Village and March first teams.

This is the same day as the 1s' AFA Surrey / Kent Senior Cup semi final at home to Clapham Old Xavarians, so it should be some Saturday.  Obviously as many spectators as possible are urged to attend.

Also on the same day the 6s travel to Old Actonians in the semi final of the AFA Intermediate Novets Cup.  To have 3 teams through to AFA semi finals and the 4s also in the SAL Cup semi finals is a remarkable achievement.  Hopefully all can progress to the finals, to join the U10s and U11s who have reached their cup finals.
4 Feb 2006 - Weekend Review  - another fabulous set of results for the club with no defeats this week.  The 1s came out on top in a very tight encounter with in form Polytechnic, and this 5th win in a row moves us into the promotion race.

Two goals down and with only 16 minutes remaining of their AFA Intermediate Cup quarter final at Wake Green in Birmingham, the 2s sensationally booked a semi-final berth with four late Steve Powell goals ( 74th, 80th, 85th and 90th minutes).  A magnificent win that shook the home team and their supporters was described by a delighted Ian Lewis as ''very well-deserved and  just reward for all the hard work and patience shown by the lads, which produced a team performance that was simply the gutsiest since I took over as manager at the start of the 2004/05 season''.

The 3s drew 1-1 with leaders Old Stationers to keep in 3rd place.  The 4s continued their climb up the division with a 1-0 win at South Bank CUACO.

Great news from Winchmore Hill where the 6s ran riot again, this time scoring 5 in their AFA Cup game to reach the semi finals.  Well done lads.  Young Justin Said grabbed another couple to put him second on 17 in the race for the Golden Boot.  He is now 4 behind leader Andy Bitmead.

The 7s shared 8 goals in a thriller with league leaders Kew Association 6s.  Congratulations to Jim Armstrong for his hattrick.  The 8s won again, this time against Old Actonians in a close encounter.

The Vets game at Old Tiffinians was postponed in midweek as the opposition could not raise a side.

Results would indicate we are having a very good season.  More people at training on Tuesdays and Thursdays would of course help further improvements.  Keep up the good work players!

On Sunday there were some remarkable results and performances in the youth section.  Firstly the U10s maintained their second place in their division with a comfortable home win.  Then the U14s remarkably put 7 goals past the league leaders without reply to draw within 2 points of Raynes Park Sports with a game in hand.  Then in the afternoon arguably the best result of all when the U11s knocked out the holders Epsom Eagles to reach the final of the League Cup with a spirited performance.  Congratulations to all boys.
3 Feb 2006 - AFA Vets Dinner  - Bill Backers is organising tickets for Club members to the AFA Vets Dinner being held on Friday 7 April at HSBC Sports Club, Beckenham.  If you want tickets (priced £25 each including wine), send a cheque payable to BL Backers to 42 Sandy Lane South, Wallington, Surrey, SM6 9QZ by the week ending 25 February.  Transport will be arranged once confirmed numbers are known
