August 2007

News Summary

30 Aug 2007 - Old Owens 6-a-side Tournament - despite late cry-offs, a Carshalton team consisting of Senior Squad players Danny Lawler, James Horton, Richard Webb, Badgie, Justin Said and manager / veteran keeper Ian Lewis, turned in a magnificent performance on a blisteringly hot Bank Holiday Monday at the Old Owens Six-a-Side Tournament. Having qualified for the knock-out stage from an extremely tough group that had included the 2006 winners, Potters Bar Rovers, and also Ibis, KCS Wimbledon, Old Aldenhamians and Goffs Old Boys, the team eventually went out of the competition in the semi finals, losing by the odd goal in five in one of the best games of the day. Incidentally, the Senior Squad injury list grows ever longer - the manager's goalkeeping exploits during the semi final resulting in his breaking a bone in the hand and cracking another in the wrist!
30 Aug 2007 - Senior Squad Friendly - the Senior Squad started their pre season schedule of games last Saturday with an exciting display at Hawes Down School in Hayes where they comprehensively defeated their hosts Old Wilsonians by six goals to nil. One goal up at the break, courtesy of Andy Clower's 31st minute strike, manager Ian Lewis watched his young side dominate the second period, scoring a further five goals through Shane Bowes (49 & 66), James Horton (51) and Justin Said (59 & 67).
30 Aug 2007 - SAL Centenary Match - as part of the events celebrating the SAL's centenary, the SAL Rep side is playing founder member Ipswich Town FC at the HSBC ground, Lenard Road, New Beckenham on Wednesday 5 September with a 3pm KO.  All spectators are most welcome.
In addition, the SAL Centenary Dinner is being held on Friday 26th October 2007 at The Brewery, Chiswell Street. London.  Contact Club Secretary Trevor Boughton to obtain tickets (priced £40).
18 Aug 2007 - Trial Matches - The Club's pre season programme of fixtures got underway on Saturday with two eagerly contested friendlies against Old Wilsonians at Sparrows Den. In the first of these, goals from Tyrone Cross after 33 minutes and Richard Clark on 68 minutes looked to have secured victory for a combined 3s & 4s side overseen by Tony Edwards and Ben Doherty. However, the hosts hit back in the 79th minute, and then with less than a minute remaining found an equalising goal to earn a creditable draw.
On the adjacent pitch, despite dominating for much of the play and hitting the woodwork on two occasions, a combined 6s & 7s side with Matt Boyman and Andy Walters at the helm were rather unlucky to be two goals down before Tom Thoroughgood headed a well deserved consolation goal in the 89th minute.
15 Aug 2007 - Assistant Referee Course - the Club is running an Assistant Referees course at the Clubhouse on Tuesday 25 September starting at 8pm.  It is expected to last approximately 1 hour.  The purpose of the course is to provide guidance to those who may be called upon to fulfill the role of Club Assistant Referee - particularly parents of the Youth Section teams.  To register for this free course, email us at ClubDevelopmentOfficer@carshaltonfc.co.uk stating your name and contact details.  If you are a youth team parent, please also name the age group of your child's team.
13 Aug 2007 - Change to Friendlies - a few changes to the pre season schedule - note there are a couple of trial matches (basically to see prospective new players in action) at Old Wilsonians this Saturday.  Broadly these are aimed at 3s / 4s / 5s in one game and 6s / 7s / 8s in the other.  Those selected to play should not put too much store in which team they are selected.  This is an opportunity for the skippers to have a scan over new and not so new talent.
13 Aug 2007 - Youth Section Parents Meeting - all youth section parents are requested to attend a meeting at 7.30pm on Wed. 5 September at the Clubhouse, Beddington Park.  This is an opportunity to meet the team managers and Club officials and to ask any questions you may have.  The Club officials will discuss a various aspects of the youth section, including the Code of Conduct.  Should any player's family be unable to attend, please inform your team manager, otherwise we will see you there.  The bar will be open, and we hope you have an enjoyable evening.
