30 Sep 2007 -
Weekend Review - quite a turnaround from
last week, with a number of heavy defeats in the
Club. The 2s, 3s, 4s, 6s and 7s all lost - all
apart from the 6s result being quite comprehensive on
the face of it. Squad changes required already
or just a blip? Certain skippers have some tough
decisions already.
The 1s came back from 0-2 down after problems with pre
match preparation and changing facilities at
Kew. Goals from Andy Taylor (2), Justin Said and
James Horton capped an excellent fightback to go top
of the table at this very early stage.
The Club's goal balance was restored somewhat with
Mark Lock's hattrick prominent in the 5s 6-0 win over
Ibis 4s and Jon Smith's 4 goal haul proving far too
much for Merton's 7s and putting the 8s top of their
division.
On Sunday the U11s and U9s lost at home, while there
was success on the road for the U13s in the League Cup
and an astonishing 15-0 win for the U11s in the
league.
Special mention this weekend to Colette Roberts who
ran the kitchen on Sunday with the U11s and U9s,
despite her son playing away in the U13s AND it being
her birthday. Hopefully she didn't use that as
an excuse for not preparing the Sunday lunch!
30 Sep 2007 -
Junior Clare Arrives - congratulations to
Simon and Mel Clare on the arrival of their second
child - a baby boy - on Friday 28 September. The
baby has blond hair!

Champions Fixture -
Nottsborough edged the annual Champions fixture
played at the City of London Schools Playing Fields,
defeating the SAL Rep side in a very
entertaining game by the odd goal in five. The
Carshalton trio of Paul Pearce, Scott Poulier, and
Jamie Wilde were all named in the starting
line-up, as the SAL made a great start to the game, opening
the scoring as early as the 6th minute.
However, Nottsborough drew level in the 19th
minute, and then having enjoyed the better of
the first half chances, eventually took the
lead a minute before the interval.
With an injured Scott Poulier sitting-out the second
half, the SAL hit back five minutes
after the break with an equaliser of their own, but
moments later conceded what turned out to
be the winning goal. Two superb
saves from Jamie Wilde ensured Nottsborough didn't
add further to their tally, and then a
push on Paul Pearce should have seen the SAL awarded
a late spot kick, although this would been
harsh on a Nottsborough team that deserved to take
the spoils. A fine advert for SAL football,
it was a pity that attendance at the game wasn't
perhaps a little better!
26 Sep 2007 - Match
Reports - well done to all the teams (senior
and youth section) who got match reports in this
week. The 6s even managed to put in 2
reports!! Only the 1s and 2s reports are
missing. Come on lads, let's have match reports
for EVERY game this season.
26 Sep 2007 - SAL

25 Sep 2007 - Youth
Cup Draws - the U11s will travel to NPL Youth
B from Teddington in the next round of the Surrey
County Cup. NPL Youth surprised Kew Park Rangers
2-1.
The U13s host Guildford City Boys who overcame Farnham
United B 3-2 in the previous round. Both games
are on 4th November.
22 Sep 2007 -
Weekend Review - great start for the Club with our top 3
sides who all winning without conceding. The
1s dominated for long spells against newly promoted
Kew Association and despite being camped in the
visitors' half for much of the game, they could only manage to find the net
once - Michael Tilley's 74th minute goal
getting brother David Tilley's captaincy off to a good
start.
The 2s' win at
last year's champions West Wickham was performance of
the day without doubt. Badgie's goal brought all
3 points back to Beddington Park, while the team were
grateful to new keeper John Beale for a couple of fine
saves late on.
The 3s routed
Old Salesians for the second time in 2 weeks.
Danny Backhouse grabbed 4 goals. However the
gloss was somewhat taken off the display when news
came through that young Matt Perkins left hospital on
crutches after suffering an ankle injury in the first
half. We
wish Matt a speedy recovery. The 4s defeat
at BB Eagles was a bit of a surprise and the 5s
lost out to a Matt Trumper own goal! The 6s, 7s
and 8s also won to kick off their league campaigns.
Not a bad start to the season with 6 wins and only a couple
of defeats. Well done to everyone whose efforts
have made this start possible - skippers, players and
those who work hard behind the scenes in the close
season to drive the Club forward.
On Sunday in their Surrey Cup matches, the U13s cruised through with an 8-2 win
over Epsom & Ewell League Premier Division side
South Park FC, while the U11s won a close game with
Thornton Athletic on
penalties

Cup Draws -
following last weekend's cup fixtures, both the 1s and 2s now know their 2nd round opponents in the Surrey/Kent Senior Cup and Intermediate Cup competitions respectively. The 1s will travel to Nottsborough on
1 7th November after the Tolworth based SAL Champions were awarded a walkover against South Bank
CUACO. The 2s must travel to The Peter May Sports Centre in Walthamstow on 6th October where they will face Egbertians 1s, the Amateur Football Combination side
who defeated Citigroup CMB 1s 4-0 in the last round.
16 Sep 2007 -
Weekend Review - not too much to report this
week. The Club owes a large debt of gratitude to
Tony Edwards for giving up his Saturday morning to put
together 2 sets of goals. With these in place,
the 3s and 4s played entertaining friendly with the 3s
running out 5-2 winners. The Vets went in 5
goals down at halftime, but rallied to draw the second
half. both goals coming from Mike Maddick.
Jim is on the lookout for Vets players interested in
playing this season as the squad is somewhat bare with
injuries at present.
On Sunday the U9s played their first league game and
were right in the game at 2-2, but the went on to
lose. Still, plenty of encouraging signs for
this fledgling team. The U10s bowed out of the
Inter League cup despite scoring 4 goals! The U11s continued their
excellent start to the season with an entertaining 1-0
win in the league. The U13s went to the top of
their division with a second successive 4-0 away win.
9 Sep 2007 - SAL
Rep Player - congratulations to Scott Poulier
who was selected to represent the SAL against Ipswich
Town (who used to be members of the SAL) on 5 September as part of the SAL Centenary
celebrations. Ipswich Town brough a side with
plenty of Championship experience and ran out 7-1
winners. 13 Sep 2007 -
Weekend Preview - not much to preview on
Saturday, as the only game is the Vets trip to
Maori. The league fixtures start on 22
September.
On Sunday the U11s are at home (pitch, goals, nets,
etc being available of course), while the U9s, U10s
and U13s are on their travels. The U10s are in
Inter League Cup action while the other teams have
league games. Good luck to all.
9 Sep 2007 -
Weekend Review - unavailability,
late cry-offs and no-shows severely depleted the
Senior Squad in the traditional pre season Old
Salesians games
at Old Schools Lane, Ewell where the 1s went
down to a 0-2 defeat and the 2s suffered a
four-goal reverse. More encouraging though
was a 7-2 victory for the 3s, which included four
goals from Matt Wigham - a recall to the 1s looks on
the cards Matt! The 4s with Trevor Boughton
standing-in for skipper Ben Doherty gained a very
creditable 3-0 win - Steve Hayes with a brace and
Richard Clark the goal scorers. In the last
of the matches, Dave Jenvey's 5s fought back bravely
having conceded a goal as early as the opening
minute, but despite goals from Lee Woodward and Alex
Kiszczuk, they lost narrowly to the odd goal
in five.
The Vets lost 1-4 with Neil Backers' diving header
equalising the scores. Skipper Jim Finn came on
with 20 minutes to go and the team promptly conceded 3
goals!
On Sunday the U10s, U11s and U13s opened their league
campaigns with wins, which is very encouraging.
All managers were delighted with the style of the
performances and the manner in which the games were
played and watched. The U9s game was postponed.
9 Sep 2007 - Dennis
Whitehall - the former AFA President has
passed away after suffering from leukemia.
Dennis was a frequent visitor to our clubhouse on
match days and often held court at the bar,
contributing generously to our profits! We will
miss him. We send our best wishes to his family
and friends at this time. Dennis' funeral will
be held at 1pm on 25 September at the North East
Surrey Crematorium, Morden.
9 Sep 2007 - SAL
Rep Player - congratulations to Scott Poulier
who was selected to represent the SAL against Ipswich
Town (who used to be members of the SAL) on 5 September as part of the SAL Centenary
celebrations. Ipswich Town brough a side with
plenty of Championship experience and ran out 7-1
winners. 3 Sep 2007 -
Weekend Review - the Senior Squad fought back
bravely at the Kingston University Sports Ground where
midfielder Luke Appleton's 89th minute strike earned
them a well-deserved draw against Nottsborough 2s.
Earlier goals from the host's centre-forward on
54 and 69 minutes looked to have won a close
contest. However, a frantic finish was ensured
when Richard Smith bundled a near post cross home with
twelve minute remaining.
A 3s / 4s combined side came off second best against
Ewell Town's 1s in a pre season friendly.
On Sunday there were pre season friendlies for the
U9s, U10s and U13s. Lots of valuable lessons
learned for boys and managers alike.
