2007/08 Season News Item...

November 2007

News Summary

28 Nov 2007 - Jon Taylor - on 29 September, the 8s played a fixture with Merton 7s at Beddington Park in which a Merton player sustained a very nasty cut to his head and was taken to hospital.  In October we received a letter from Brian Meggs who had sustained the injury enclosing a WH Smiths gift voucher and a letter thanking "the young gentleman who gave me a lift to St Helier Hospital... The hospital commended his action on my head wound and I am grateful for his help."  We have just confirmed that the person in question was Jon Taylor of the 8s squad and we will be passing on the gift voucher to Jon this Saturday.

Nice to report a couple of actions demonstrating that the SAL spirit is alive and kicking in South London.
28 Nov 2007 - Sponsored 10k Fun Run - we have received a letter from Mark Caswell, Director of M.C.C Promotions thanking the Club for their assistance in providing changing facilities and opening the bar for the Save The Children 10k Fun Run which took place at Beddington Park in October.  He saved special thanks to Maria for all her help behind the bar.

19 Nov 2007 - Weekend Review - the 1s continue to set the pace at the top of Division Two, opening up a ten-point gap over their nearest rivals after an overwhelming victory against a South Bank CUACO side that rarely threatened.  The highlight in an otherwise very poor first half saw a move of real quality finished by Paul Pearce, who opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a diving header.  After the break, goals from Richard Smith (58) and Paul Neil (60) secured the points, before Pearce (66), Smith (67), and Neil (86) each netted again to complete the rout.

The 2s tasted defeat in a top of the table clash at Winchmore Hill losing 2-5.  The 3s lost in extra time in their AFA Junior Cup match with Old Josephians.  However the 4s romped home 9 goals against the bottom of the table Old Westminster Citizens, Matt Perkins gabbing a hattrick.  The 5s lost in the league while the 6s won on penalties in the SAL Cup - they now face a trip to Polytechnic in the quarter finals.  The 7s recorded a much needed win while the 8s lost by the odd goal in 9 in their AFA Cup tie.

On Sunday there were defeats for the U11s and U9s, while the U10s and U13s produced excellent performances in winning.
19 Nov 2007 - Fixture News - it has been planned that there will be a full SAL programme of fixtures on 22nd December.  Therefore, players who know they will be unavailable for selection for matches on this, the last Saturday before the Christmas holiday, must let their skippers know as soon as possible.  It will be greatly appreciated if the skippers would then forward this information to the Team Secretary.
4 Nov 2007 - Youth Section Quiz & Chilli Night - 7.30PM FRIDAY 16 NOVEMBER.  Tickets £6 for adults (includes entry & chilli) in advance from Youth Team Managers.

Places limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.  Kids free entry and £4 on the night for the chilli.

Quiz master is Martin Firmo, who runs these professionally - a real hit last year.  Fun for ALL the family.  A great fund raiser for the Youth Section and an ideal opportunity to meet other teams in the Club.  Bar will of course be open!!  All proceeds go directly to the youth teams.
4 Nov 2007 - Weekend Review - almost a clean sweep on Saturday and an absolute avalanche of goals - 36 for and 10 against!  Ian Lewis celebrated his 100th match as a Carshalton manager by watching his 1s go nine points clear at the top of Division Two with a convincing home victory over E.B.O.G. In a contest they dominated from the first whistle to the last, the 1s opened the scoring after 22 minutes with a well-drilled corner kick routine that finished with John Biggle's first goal of the season. Luke Appleton extended the lead on 31 minutes with superb strike from 18 yards, and then on the stroke of half time, Dave Tilley's lob over the keeper gave him his first goal of the season. The result was put beyond doubt on the hour mark when Shane Bowes completed the scoring with a stunning 25-yard dipping shot.

The 3s and 5s both marched on in the cup with emphatic wins.  In the league there were wins for the 4s, 6s and 8s, with only the 7s losing to a goal in the last 3 minutes.

Congratulation to James Harrison (5s) and Jon Smith (8s) for hitting hattricks.  Even though they were away from home, don't forget the jug next time you're both at home!!

On Sunday the U9s lost in the league, the U11s were knocked out of the Surrey Cup.  The U13s marched on in the Surrey cup with an excellent all round display and the U10s came through a nerve wracking game with extra time to stay in the Invitational Cup 5-4 on penalties!  Quite a day on Sunday.
1 Nov 2007 - 5-a-side Tournament - following the FA’s campaign, “One Game, One Community“, Carshalton FC have been invited to be one of the South East’s clubs playing in the London Pride 5-a-side tournament in June 2008. We have been invited to field up to three teams. The tournament will take place at a Goals 5-a-side centre on a Saturday, with matches being played in both the morning and the afternoon. In the evening, trophies will be presented in a West End nightclub.
