AFA Surrey / Kent Senior Cup - 23rd September 2006
I'll keep this short.
An extremely poor performance which quite frankly leaves a great many question marks against a large number of the players who contributed to Saturday's defeat. Bar Neil Backers, I don't think any outfield player could come away from Saturday feeling as though they had given their best for the club. Too many players looked either uninterested or as though they were suffering from a heavy night. If the 1s have any real intention of pushing for promotion this year then individuals need to look at what they get up to on Friday nights and whether they are prepared to train in the week. All 1st team and senior squad players for that matter are expected at training on Tuesday this week (7-15pm at the club).
As for the game itself. Quite simply, Kew wanted it more and deserved their emphatic win. Apart from a lively 15 minutes from kick off we were very poor for the remainder of the game. Our defence looked wide open, the midfield laboured and toothless in attack.
I genuinely hope that this was just a bad day at the office and the desire and hunger to win matches, so evident the previous week, returns in time for a tough away fixture at Weirside next week.
With the 2s making a very promising start to the season, the players at the very top of the club should be feeling the pressure for their places.
