SAL - 6th February 2010
Cars took to the field against HSBC on the back of a run of 3 disappointing results. Looking to kick start the season, a win was imperative against a side struggling themselves. Despite a couple of key absentees, the mood before kick-off was that of confidence, knowing that a win was vital. A quick start was key, and that’s exactly what Cars got, with the first attack of the game Webbo swung in a dangerous cross and Adam Taylor rose highest in the box the plant a firm header beyond the keeper. We were well into our rhythm now and Fisky and Scott were dictating play, regularly using full backs Webbo and Horton, who were finding increasing space. We were looking dangerous when the ball was out wide, with Jamie and Dan causing the HSBC Defence problems. The second goal duly came, a dangerous ball in from the left flank saw the unfortunate defender turn home.
We were now well in the ascendancy and Fraser Addo, making his 1st team debut scored the 3rd, and pick of the goals, latching onto a Bruce kick, Fraser steadied himself before lashing home from 25 yards, great strike. Further goals by Fisk a (towering header) and Adam Taylor (a cool 1 on 1 finish) saw us take a 5 goal lead into the interval. The 1st half performance was by far our best of the season.
Andy Taylor, fresh from the Switzerland hills, added the 6 goal soon after the break and we were looking set to really help our goal difference. Before kick-off Wiggy made a point of saying we were shot shy, a fair point given the relatively low number of goals we have scored thus far this season, however, the second half started with a succession of shots from distance, none of which troubled the keeper. For long periods we kept possession and passed the ball around really well, however we lacked the cutting edge we had in the 1st half. HSBC nicked a consolation with 10 minutes left, the only minus from an otherwise exemplary Cars performance,
Full time, 6-1 to Cars, our most resounding win of the season and probably our best performance. We kept the ball superbly and used the size of the pitch really well; we also took our 1st half chance. Once again the defence looked solid. With 8 games to play the fate of our season is in our hands, if we play like this every week, we should win the league, we just need to maintain the high standard we set this week.
