Carshalton 2nd XI

SAL - 19th October 2002

The day did not start well with the team captain forgetting to bring the kit, so we had to divert to Croydon to pick it up.

With Charlie on the touchline yelling instructions and abuse to us, we were not going to disappoint. The defence as a whole played outstandingly well with Gary and Danny controlling the middle and James C and Steven stopping the wingers from crossing or creating a chance. The nearest they came was two free kicks from 25 yards in the first half which whistled high and wide.

The midfield duo of Dean (captain for the day) and James was busy winning the majority of 50/50 balls which you would expect from the pair.  Our wingers was a constant problem to Old Stationers with their pace (not so much with their passing).

The score suggest it was a tightly contested game but Tony missed two or three chances that you would expect Tony to net.  Jason had a great chance from 2 yards (an easy header that a defender could have scored) but failed to hit the target.  They worked hard and with Tony confusing their defence he was brought down (a bit suspect) and won the penalty.  Tony slotted the ball away for what turned out to be the winner.
