SAL - 2nd November 2002
It was billed as one of the toughest games so far this season against Winchmore Hill at Beddington Park, and we produced our best performance to date. Even Charlie was happy with our performance, which tells you a lot (no swearing).
We created only a handful of chances in the first half (Jason Winyard being guilty of missing them) but only capitalised on one of them with Jason coolly dodging round one defender and slotting into the bottom right hand corner. Our passing was slick and created mayhem for Winchmore.
The second half we were under a lot of pressure, but this made us step up a gear with some neat passing in midfield and strong defensive work from the back four limiting Ross to making only one save in the second half. Paul Pearce and Stuart Dunne were on top form down the wings, causing havoc, with Paul instrumental in 2 of the 3 goals in the second half. Our central midfield duo was snapping away and winning many 50/50 balls. Our two front men were constantly hassling their defence, which forced them into making mistakes.
Our second goal was created from a superb 30 yard pass from yours truly down the right to Paul who crossed the ball with pinpoint accuracy for Brendan to slot home. For our third, Brendan cut inside from the left, went past 2 players and curled it into the bottom corner with the keeper getting a touch but the shot was too powerful. Paul solely created the fourth goal with a run down the right, ghosting past 2 players only to be brought down for a penalty, which Stuart stuck away.
With all the Winchmore attacking play we held out strongly, limiting them to long-range efforts, which flew high and wide. They only pulled one back 8 minutes from time with a low long-range shot.
What's going on? Dean's been captain for four games and his record is won 4, drawn 0 and lost 0. Aslo can Tony Edwards break back into the team? Who knows?
