SAL - 15th February 2003
Another local derby against Old Salesians, who are unbeaten since the turn of the year. With half our team out this was not going to be an easy game. Within the first five minutes we went one down. With 3 of the 4 defenders playing in different roles this was not surprising. Give the defence credit - this was the only mistake as we kept their strikers at bay or let them shot from long range.
Half way through the half Brendan Griffin chested a ball down and volley the ball home from 12 yards after some good build up play. The midfield due of Brendan and James Harrison kept our football flowing and with two third team players Alex Booker and Johnny Phillips playing right and left wing our midfield was strong.
In the second half we lacked creativity and shots on target. The nearest came from yours truly who had a header well saved from around 10 yards out going into the bottom right hand corner (how the keeper got to it I will never know)
The final result 1-1 was a fair result considering our depleted squad. Even so, we should have won. The next month is a must win month, where we play our main rivals for the title. If we have all our players available we could do well.
