SAL - 15th March 2003
A must win game against South Bank. With our recent form being below standard and our main rivals winning, we did ourselves proud. From the supporters' point of view the game wasn’t pretty with many strong challenges going in (all fairly and clean), which we must have won at least 75%. The new-look strike force of Jay Breem and Gary Cummings caused havoc at front. Every time they got the ball they held up play and distributed well. It was hard to create a chance but with 5 minutes of the first half to go Gary did his tricks and slotted home well.
The defence held solid and restricted South Bank to long range efforts only in both halves.
The midfield worked as a unit with Tony and James challenging and making it hard in the middle and with the pace and skill of Jonny and Ben down the wings was superb.
The second half was the same but Tony had a one on one with the keeper and hit the post (was off side by a mile but the ref never gave it). The nearest they came was from a great flick-on that hit the crossbar twice (problem was it was from my head not a striker's head). Thankfully that didn’t go in and we won the game.
With other results going our way, this result could be the key for promotion, as South Bank have only been beaten 3 times this season (twice by us)
