SAL – 1 March 2003
After last week's disastrous result and poor performance, a 3-1 against a very good Old Esthameians side was extremely gratifying especially for myself as they were team who I fractured my ankle against! For the second week on the trot we had a much changed line up. However the players who came in did very well.
After my team talk enthusing the policy of not giving anything away early on while the new players bed in etc, we gave a goal away more or less straight from kick off which at the time did not bode well. Having said that, the team skippered by Neil Edwards pulled together well and equalised before half time through Gary Cummings. This was despite some long periods of pressure by the away side.
The second half saw the Carshalton 3s gel together well and two goals through Jay "I'm going for a Fanta" Bream won us the game. If anyone can explain to me why he didn't get a hattrick after a long mazy run where he appeared to be going for goal via Hackbridge. Answers on a post card please!
I was very pleased with this win, as it was a very strong team effort in difficult conditions (Wellington boots required) against a strong side. The team was much changed taking me a while to work out everyone's names. The only disappointing side to the result was Gareth Banton's sending off which came after what in my opinion was his best game for the club. Hopefully he will learn from that.
Onwards and upwards and look forward to next week without Jay "Fanta" Bream.
