Old Esthameians

1

Carshalton 3rd XI

4 Jay Bream 3, Sean Hayes

SAL – 13th September 2003

Carshalton secured their first Premiership win of the season and moved to the top of the table on goal difference in the process after a fine display at the Esthameians Stadium.  An excellent hat trick from Jay Bream gave Carshalton the points.  Carshalton may lack the class of many of their rivals but they are well organised and showed they will not go down without a fight.

Esthameians, on the other hand, struggled badly, with their new-look defence disappointing throughout the match.  The game started brightly and Matt Osborne forced the Esthameians keeper into a low save with a header after just 90 seconds.  When the breakthrough finally came after 20 minutes, it was courtesy of a stunning first-of-the-season goal from Sean Hayes.

Three minutes later Carshalton went two up in equally fine style.  Esthameians pulled one back and for a moment Glennister’s boys were rocked.  Danny Glennister’s tactics of kicking the ball out to Dan Gordon on the right wing were not working!

When the diminutive Bream latched on to Danny Glennister’s goal kick there did not look to be any immediate danger for Esthamians, but the big man spun sharply and fired a classy lob drive into the corner of the goal.

The travellers eventually made it 3-0 when Bream once again turned smartly on the edge of the box before stroking the ball past the exposed Esthameians keeper.  And Carshalton completed the rout a minute before the end of normal time and rubbed salt into the wound when Bream powered home a split cross from the Esthameians keeper.
