SAL Division 2 - 8th October 2005
Following last week's demolishing, Carshalton 3s were looking to bounce back from a bad defeat in the cup. This week's opposition was Old Esthameians the team which finished above the 3s last season and by doing so won the division. For both teams a win was necessary to get the early season points on the board.
The team welcomed back stars such as Chris Wells and Jack Goodman who started for their team. The team lined up 4-4-2 (classic) and produced some sparkling football stuff that could make you drool. As the first half grew old, it remained 0:0 until Jack Goodman latched on to a massive kick from goalkeeper Steve McKinnan and volleyed home for his first goal of the season. Things were looking good for the boys in green until a moment of genius lit up the pitch and levelled the score 1:1 at half time
The match was dying down a bit and the gaffa had forgotten to pick up the kids (he was l8) so he sent one of his henchmen to throw the orders around and make a substitution. New signing John Taylor came on for the tired looking Chris Thompson. This meant Jack Goodman dropped into midfield and John Taylor moved upfront.
Within 5 minutes Carshalton were back in front through substitute John Taylor with a cool finish (Henry style) into the bottom left corner to the delight of his on-looking fans after a great defence splitting pass to find him.
The final whistle went and everyone was ecstatic to have beaten last year’s winners of division 3. Onwards and upwards for Carshalton 3s now.
