SAL Division 2 - 21st October 2006

I thought I'd seen most things in football but sometimes it jumps up and bites you when you're least expecting it.  We were 1-0 up within 2 minutes, Bill Tilley's defence splitting pass putting Tony Edwards in for a clinical finish.  Paul Neil's entry for goal of the season followed, unleashing a 35 yard shot which left the keeper stranded. Stevie Powell then decided to get in on the act with a great finish from outside the box. 3-0 up and we were cruising, I even thought I might get a run out up front myself. How wrong you can be.

Don't ask me how but we then conceded 4 goals to go in 3-4 down at half time. I'm not in the habit of picking out individual mistakes but on this occasion I feel that Dave Paterson thought he was still in a bar in Puerto Banus, Gary Baker's new found form with the ladies and Simon Clare's decision to convince their left midfielder that Alan Brazil regularly attended dinner parties at his house all contributed to our twenty minutes of madness.

The second half saw some end to end football, Stevie Powell's left foot finish from just inside the box being the highlight. The game could have finished 10 each but for some of fine saves from Terry. Gary Organ and Tom Richie battled tirelessly in midfield with "holiday" Dave Fenton finding his form at right midfield.

The 5-5 draw was probably a fair result.
