Carshalton 4th XI |

SAL – 13th September 2003
Taking an exceptionally young and inexperienced side all the way to Wanstead for the first game of the season had all the makings of a calamitous start....but that was without reckoning on the bottle that these lads brought to the game and the outstanding performances of Danny Berry and Mark Taylor in the centre of midfield.
On a rock hard surface football was certainly not the winner, and having taken the lead via an Elliott Stephens tap in (having followed up on Matt Vellacott's bundle into the keeper) we fell 1-2 behind before half time.
A small tactical switch at the break brought Tyrone onto the right wing and Mark Taylor to left back. From half time onwards, Carshalton completely bossed the match. A delightfully flighted Danny Berry free kick found James' (centre half) head, from which he lofted the ball over the Old Es stand in keeper.
The scoring was completed on 60 minutes when Matt Vellacott chested down a Gareth Banton pass and struck from fully 30 yards.
This was a superb win and augurs very well for all sides from the 4s downwards
