Carshalton 4th XI

2 A.Newbold 2

Norsemen

SAL – 11th October 2003

The 4s may have come out of this fixture without the points but certainly deserved credit for a fighting display. After taking control of the game from the start they were unfortunate to go behind against the run of play.  However, a well struck shot from Andy Newbold ensured they were level 10 minutes later.  Cars created and squandered a number of chances but could not take advantage in the last third of the pitch.

The second half started much the same as the first but yet again they found themselves a goal behind. The ageing legs of HMS Paterson and Gary Oheme were tested time after time by the Norseman front line, and it was with some relief when Andy Newbold's 30 yard strike beat the Norseman keeper.  As legs tired so did the concentration and the Carshalton keeper could not be blamed for a scorching 35 yard shot which rifled in to the top left corner.  No keeper in the world could have got near a shot like that.

After a tactical substitution, Kirk Reynolds did his famous disappearing act into thin air (sounds familiar, especially at the bar).  A 2-3 defeat but a good performance.  The Soul Patrol march on regardless, and thanks to all the team for your help at teas.  I really appreciated walking round the club with a bin-liner full of old Sausage and Chips.
