SAL Division 2 – 17th September 2005

A disappointing start to the season, but in hindsight perhaps not unexpected bearing in mind the age of the side and the fact it was the first time we were able to get together properly.  We were up against a very experienced Polytechnic side.  Nevertheless it could have gone either way in the first half, although we were reliant on our new goalkeeper Jason, who made a couple of fantastic saves - one of which really was "straight off the telly"

0-0 at half time, we changed it around.  However Poly scored the first goal ironically enough through a mistake by our own MOM goalkeeper.  The first goal was always going to be crucial.  We pushed forward making bold substitutions with Earl Davis coming on for his debut and Tommy pushing on from left midfield.  They scored their second on the break (as we pushed forward).  The second goal killed the game somewhat although we still went for broke pushing three up front.  Elliott nearly scored goal of the season - what a way that would have been to sign off before going to University.

It was left to Alex to score a blinding goal after being put through.  1-2.  Unfortunately they caught us on the break with a third.  All I can say is that at least we went for it.  We had something like 8 players under 17 years of age in the squad and it will take a period of time to settle, but I am sure when we get a couple of the senior players back, things will kick in.  Plus once we get the clubhouse back we can do some proper training and get the team working together.
