SAL Division 2 – 15th October 2005
After the changes in midweek Wol took the new 4s away to Kew after a good start with the 5s. After a tough opening 10 minutes we found ourselves 1-0 down, but after their goal we started to settle in to the game and really should have been on level terms at half time.
We started the second half brightly by winning the 50-50 balls and we finally got level from the penalty spot. It was good work through the middle and John Harris was running in to the box and the defender was trying to swap shirts with Harris. For the 3rd time in 2 games Harris scored from the spot. (HMS and Richard “sniper” Bennett take note).
With 10 minutes to go we got caught out with a long straight ball over the top and they made it 2-1 and that’s the way it finished.
We deserved at least a point and on a another day Kew would have got hammered - Pickett could have had a hat trick but we have all been playing the game long enough to know that sometimes you don’t get what you deserve in games.
The only bad point of the game was when the Kew forward lashed out and kicked HMS Paterson off the ball and the ref failed to notice it, but to be fair to the ref he did come and apologise to the team after the game because he knew something happened but couldn’t give something he didn’t see. It takes a big man to do that, how many refs admit their mistakes?
Man of the Match: It was a long time coming but well done to HMS Paterson. Surprising as it is, as he was due a good game. “I hate to say it but HMS Paterson was man of the match,” said Wol. (Just so I don’t get all the blame from HMS).
HMS also got an eyeful of the bar lady breasts after the game which I know he enjoyed.
