SAL Division 2 – 26th November 2005
A great performance away last week to an unbeaten Civil Service side saw us come away with a 3-1 win. Although our opponents started the brighter, we managed to weather the storm and gradually gained control of the midfield. After squandering some good chances we took the lead through Tyrone Knight. A neat pass from Dave Fenton and Ty's shot dipped over the keeper and into the back of the net from a very acute angle. Tireless work on the left hand side from Chris French saw him go close with a well hit volley but he was rewarded shortly after with a goal from close range. The battle for midfield was without doubt won by Lee Byrne who had his best game of the season so far ensuring we went in 2-0 up at half time. The second half started as you would expect, like the Alamo. We managed to hold out for 15 minutes but inevitably they scored to make it 2-1. We really showed our character and when Dave Fenton made it 3-1 the game was ours for the taking. Some late pressure bought Ian Castle in to action in the last few minutes who responded well with a couple of excellent saves to ensure we ran out 3-1 winners.
It was a great team performance with Dave Paterson and John Harris showing their experience along with Tom Richie in midfield. However I would have to single out Lee Byrne for MOM.
This win sees us move up to half way in the table so at least things are in our own hands for once this season. I shall be away on a scouting mission of New York's lap dancing clubs this weekend so good luck with the Teas lads! Thanks to Tyrone for letting me wear his hat on Saturday. Although it kept me warm I looked like a right c***
