SAL Division 2 - 16th September 2006

We got off to a poor start by conceding a goal against the run of play.  Civil Service battled well in the middle of the park but couldn't get past Dan Lawler, who is man of the match 2 weeks running.  His tackling, distribution was superb.  Steve Greenslade came close with another solid performance and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet with a 30 yard free kick that rattled the crossbar in the second half. I'm sure it would still be shaking if we didn't take the goals down at the end of the game.

Another outstanding player was Andy Bitmead Jnr who scored a brace through sheer determination in the first half.  His work rate was excellent up front and was unlucky not to score more.  I'm sure he will only get better. The step up in standard of football since is arrival from last years 8s doesn't seem to faze him at all.  Another Golden Boot could be on the way.

Some of the football we played was very good.  The end result was 3-1 but we should have scored a few more.  A good start and a great all round team performance!!  Please note that players will be asked to pay subs before we kick off this season.  No pay, No play!   I will collect £10.00 from each player for a home game and a player subbed will receive £5.00 back after the game.  Away games will be £8.00 and players will get £4.00 back if subbed.

I would like this opportunity to promote use of our bar.  I would like all players to come back for a few drinks.  Civil Service put us to shame as they outstayed everyone apart from a few whose names will not be mentioned.  I'm not necessarily promoting people to drink alcohol but at least come back to have a lemonade or two.
