SAL Division 2 - 17th February 2007

We started very well for a change and looked like the better team throughout the game. It’s hard to believe this team have not yet been beaten in the league.  Saying that we went 0-2 down after 25 minutes and they only had 2 shots on goal which were both against the run of play.  This is the difference between winning the league and coming second.

We started the second half with the same determination and came close to scoring straight away but they hit us on the break and scored their third in as many shots.

Polley scored a great goal after turning the defence inside out after some good build-up play, which gave us a bit of hope with 35 minutes to go. Their heads dropped and shortly after Bitmead was wrestled to the ground after rounding the keeper (by the last man) to be rewarded with a penalty.  No card was shown.   The young man himself placed it low in the corner but the keeper managed to save.  It just was not our day.

The highlight of the game for me was when Actionians were awarded a corner.  One of the players looked somewhat dishevelled and didn’t seem to know the rules when taking a corner.  After pointing out 4 times that the ball had to be “in the D” which was a muddy hole, he still wanted to place the ball 10 inches outside on a nice fluffy bit of turf.  It was almost comical.  The ref accused me of wasting time, which is an unusual call given we were 1-3 down.  We all felt a bit hard done by at the end, feeling we had been the better side.
