SAL Division 2 - 21st April 2007

Before I go into the match report, we would all like to wish the Ibis player who injured himself in the pre-match warm up a speedy recovery.  He twisted his knee kicking a ball from the next pitch back to them.

Ben Doherty aka Tony Hart because of all the draws recently, finally got his first win in the bag against Ibis at their new ground.  This great win has kept us in with a shout of coming 2nd in our division.  This does not mean promotion as only the first placed team goes up into the 1st Div.  Maybe next year....?

The first half started well and we could have been 4 or 5 nil up within the first 20 minutes.  Their goalkeeper was fantastic in the first half who pulled off some great saves from Polley and Bitmead.  Michael Gibson opened the scoring with a cheeky lob after the goalkeeper committed and it seemed to be 1 way traffic.  Our midfield and defence looked solid until Ibis broke in attack down their left side.  A long throw came into the box which was met by there tallest striker who looped his header towards goal.  This was saved by a truly fantastic fingertip save by James G onto the crossbar.

James also produced several other world class saves in the second half to keep the first clean sheet for the 4's in 6 months.  The last one was 4th November 2006 when we beat Merton in the cup 5-0.  The save from the 1 on 1 was talked about quite a lot after the game...

The second half bought goals from Polly and Bitmead kept the Golden Boot race alive with a brace.  MOM James Harrison who worked extra hard to cover for Nick Denny's poor backpasses.

Although this team were relegated, they still battled to the end which is a credit to their club.
