SAL Division 4 - 24th September 2005

With an air of confidence throughout our squad, our first home game saw us take on Old Westminster Citizens.  Wol, the master tactician, got it spot on again, with the 5s winning their 5th game in a row including our pre season.

We started brightly with the midfield keeping hold of the ball and creating many chances.  Piglet put one of them away with a great 25 yard strike into the top corner giving the keeper no chance, and then we took our foot off the pedal and they took the opportunity, which should have been ruled offside, 1-1.

We effectively killed the game off with 3 goals in 10 minutes. Tom Ritchie scored the first of his two with a nice strike in to the bottom corner. Then much to Kirk’s disappointment Bennett scored from Ty’s free kick. (Kirk tried to get the goal ruled out by calling "offside".  They have a bet on, who scores more goals, and I know who my money is on).

Tom scored again just before half time with a sweet left foot drive giving the keeper no hope.

We were 4-1 up at half time but we kept pushing for more goals with Man of the Match Johnny Wilko scoring from 10 yards out (pictured left). He just never stops running, he either has a good engine or I think we will need to get UEFA down to Beddington Park for a random drugs test.

John Harris scored for the second game in a row, coming on as a sub and from close range after good neat work in midfield.

Match Highlight: HMS Paterson missing a penalty after it was offered to Kirk but then he moaned and walked off back to our own penalty spot because he heard people moaning that he shouldn’t take it.

It was a Kodak moment.

Note to Wol: Defenders (one in particular) should be off penalty duties, it’s already cost us 2 goals
